For the first time in combat training, the calculations of the S-300V anti-aircraft missile systems were able to hit targets that imitated operational-tactical ballistic missiles, Major General Sergei Popov, chief of the anti-aircraft missile forces (ZRV) of the Air Force, told reporters in Moscow on Friday.

Thanks to the painstaking work of the anti-aircraft missile forces of the North-Western and Far Eastern Air Force and Air Defense formations for the preparation of the S-300V anti-aircraft missile units

transferred in 2008 to the Air Force air defense missile system from the military air defense, two S-300V regiments for the first time were able to cope with the performance of live firing at Kaban target missiles, analogs of operational-tactical ballistic missiles, Popov said.

He stressed that in connection with the transition of anti-aircraft missile units to the "permanent readiness" content category, the number of tactical exercises with live firing at the Air Force ranges has been increased by almost a third. At the same time, the complexity of the target situation has also significantly increased and, in contrast to anti-aircraft missile units of other types of the RF Armed Forces, as well as the Armed Forces of other CIS states, anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Force perform live firing at a target impact density of about 50% of the generated fire density of the grouping.

In addition, in the past academic year, anti-aircraft missile units of the North-Western Air Force and Air Defense Association took part in the Air Force Air-Fire Conference at the Ashuluk training ground, where they showed high skill and professionalism in conducting anti-aircraft combat. "The density of the strike reached six targets per minute, and in just two minutes of the battle, 14 target missiles were destroyed - analogs of promising air attack weapons of a potential enemy," the general said.

He especially noted the participation of anti-aircraft missile forces in the command-staff exercise of the Northern Fleet, within the framework of which one of the regiments of the North-Western Air Force and Air Defense Association, after being transported by sea, carried out live firing from Kildin Island. In the course of these practical events, in addition to the actual combat firing, issues of interaction with the Navy were worked out, which is especially important when creating air defense forces in the Arctic island territories.

"In general, the effectiveness of combat firing of anti-aircraft missile units amounted to more than 85%," - said the head of the Air Defense Forces.
