The ORSIS-F17 multi-caliber sniper rifle is well known to all Russian lovers of precision weapons. The model was presented to the public back in October 2017, the debut took place in Moscow at the ARMS & Hunting 2017 exhibition. Already in the summer of next year, the company began to accept orders for a new model, and also presented prices for the rifle, which by the spring of 2020 managed to grow, but did not so essential.

Features of multi-caliber weapons

Multi-caliber weapons are a modern trend that has been observed in the small arms market over the past years. Many Russian companies keep up with global trends and present their models of multi-caliber weapons on the market. This is exactly what the private arms company ORSIS did. According to the developers, the ORSIS-F17 multi-caliber rifle presented on the market is a weapon for people who need to solve mutually exclusive tasks. The rifle is ideal for people who are fond of sniping and hunting.

As the developers note, the design of the rifle is such that it allows you to replace the barrel even in the field. At the same time, the arrow does not need to apply any special efforts for this, and the whole process can be easily and quickly turned, having one hex key in his hands. The main advantage of multi-caliber systems over traditional rifles is the ability of the shooter to use different cartridges to solve various problems. So, for training, you can safely use smaller-caliber ammunition, and more expensive large-caliber cartridges, if necessary, can always be used to hit large targets or shoot at long distances. For example, standard 7.62x51 mm ammunition costs shooters about 5-6 times cheaper than.338 Lapua Magnum cartridges, which can also be fired by the ORSIS-F17 rifle.

The new ORSIS-F17 multi-caliber sniper rifle is the successor to the ORSIS T-5000M high-precision magazine sniper rifle. This bolt-action rifle was first introduced back in 2011. Subsequently, the rifle was modernized and improved and, as part of the Tochnost sniper complex, it was adopted by the Russian security forces. It is known that the rifle has been in service with the FSB of Russia, the FSO, the National Guard and the Special Operations Forces of the Russian Federation since 2017.

Technical features of the ORSIS-F17 sniper rifle

Since the ORSIS-F17 is the successor to one of the most famous models of the ORSIS company, the multi-caliber model has exactly the same declared accuracy - no more than 0.5 MOA (arc minutes). The declared accuracy of fire is characteristic of the maximum available caliber.338 Lapua Magnum (8, 6x70 mm) at a distance of 100 meters. The weapons manufacturer also claims that preliminary tests of the new rifle, which took place at the end of 2017, confirm the zero deviation of the midpoint of impact from the aiming point when replacing the rifle barrel.

For the consumer, the new rifle is available in three main calibers:.308 Win (7, 62x51 mm).300 Win Magnum (7, 62x67 mm) and.338 Lapua Magnum (8, 6x70 mm). In the first caliber, the barrel length is 660 mm, in the next two - 700 mm. The length of the weapon in the unfolded state also changes accordingly. In caliber.308 Win, the length of the ORSIS-F17 does not exceed 1240 mm, in calibers.300 Win Magnum and.338 Lapua Magnum - 1297 mm. For Russian consumers, rifles are available with a box magazine for five rounds. The mass of a rifle without an optical sight with an empty magazine is 7.3 kg. The pull on the trigger, as on all ORSIS rifle models, is adjustable and ranges from 500 grams to one and a half kilograms.

The main feature and difference between the ORSIS-F17 and the T-5000 sniper rifles is the ability to easily and quickly change barrels and caliber. In one rifle, the shooter gets access, in fact, to three models of high-precision weapons of different calibers. The rifle has a quick-change barrel mount of the "bayonet" type. It is enough for the arrow to unscrew the screws with a standard hex wrench, turn and remove the barrel, get the bolt and striker mechanism. To replace the barrel and change the caliber of the weapon, the shooter changes the barrel itself, the bolt cylinder, and also the magazine. According to the developers of the rifle, if you have a hexagon at hand, you can change the caliber of the weapon in just 3-5 minutes, even in the field of weapon operation.

Naturally, the ORSIS-F17 receiver is designed for all three calibers in use, including the most powerful.338 Lapua Magnum. This cartridge is a special sniper ammunition designed for long-range shooting. For the ORSIS-F17 model, the effective firing range using a cartridge of this caliber is declared as 1200 meters. At the same time, in recent years, these ammunition is increasingly used for civilian purposes and has become widespread among sports shooters and hunters. Cartridges of this caliber are perfect for hitting large or dangerous game at long ranges.

The ORSIS-F17 rifle is a bolt-action carbine that can be equipped with a stock with or without a monopod (these are two available stock modifications). The rifle butt itself is adjustable, which makes it easier to customize the weapon for a specific user. There is an adjustable cheek piece on the stock, and there is also a butt pad adjustment. In addition, the rifle butt folds, folds to the left. In the folded position, the length of the rifle is 971 mm or 1028 mm, depending on the barrels used. The rifle is equipped with a Picatinny rail for the entire length of the receiver. The optical sight is not included in the delivery set.

An additional feature is that the manufacturer can work with individual orders, creating unique designs. For example, at the request of the customer, barrels up to 32 inches (812, 8 mm) in length in all three available calibers can be made for the rifle. The rifle is standardly equipped with two models of a muzzle brake-compensator (DTC) - four-slot or three-slot. The model is available to consumers in three main colors: black, green and sand.

According to the developers, the ORSIS-F17 multi-caliber rifle has passed the entire cycle of tests for reliability and durability, being tested in various climatic conditions at temperatures from -50 to +50 degrees Celsius. According to the specialists of the manufacturing company, ORSIS provides customers with a guarantee of 2500 rounds for large caliber barrels. The company says that this does not mean that the rifle barrel will lose its accuracy when such a number of shots are reached or become unusable, the full resource of the barrel and rifle is higher than the specified value.
