In recent years, all military conflicts have followed approximately the same pattern. First, reconnaissance of the enemy's terrain was carried out in order to identify the main targets for striking. An air strike was launched, first of all, air defense systems and complexes were destroyed. After the suppression of air defense, the main objects of the enemy were destroyed.

The main objects of the first strike were anti-aircraft systems and control facilities, radar stations, which practically did not change their location since the moment they were put into operation.

After analyzing modern military conflicts, Russian military experts drew conclusions about what is required from modern means of automating the control of air defense complexes:

- high mobility;

- ease of use;

- control of various types of air defense systems;

- the maximum speed of the calculation tools;

- efficiency of the whole complex;

- the ability to perform a variety of tasks.

Based on these requirements, a set of automation equipment “Barnaul-T” produced at the Smolensk enterprise “Izmeritel” was developed and adopted.

Since 2008, the pilot operation of the Barnaul-T KSA has been carried out, it was used in various activities of daily activities and combat training as part of a motorized rifle brigade.

The KSA took part in exercises with live firing of anti-aircraft missile systems, the experience of using the KSA "Barnaul-T" in combat exercises and combat duty was constantly analyzed and collected in databases, on the basis of which improvements and corrections of the KSA were carried out.

At this hour, the KSA "Barnaul-T" has passed all the experimental tests and went into mass production, the planned deliveries to the Armed Forces are being carried out. Based on the current air defense control system, the Barnaul-T KSA is supplied as a set of universal control units. The blocks fit quite easily into the control systems of the anti-aircraft missile systems of the air defense of the Russian Federation.

Since 2009, single deliveries of KSA to the Armed Forces have begun, but 25 sets of control equipment will enter service in November 2011.

In terms of the main tasks - the time of setting tasks for combat crews, the conjugation of control modules, the solution of design and operational-tactical tasks, the number of processed air objects - the KSA "Barnaul-T" is not inferior to Western counterparts.

- planning module 9S931-1 on a wheeled chassis (to equip the command post of the brigade commander);

- planning module 9S931;

- 9S932-1 control and reconnaissance module (for command posts of short-range anti-aircraft batteries);

- mobile fire control modules MANPADS-9S933 of the platoon commander of anti-aircraft gunners;

- mobile modules for anti-aircraft gunners detachments MANPADS-9S935.

The mobile module of the anti-aircraft gunner is packed in a vest and consists of a battery pack, a signal processing unit, a data reception and transmission unit, a controller, a satellite navigation receiver and a radio station. Through the satellite navigation unit, the anti-aircraft gunner determines its position, which is automatically transmitted to the command post.

Modules of the Barnaul-T automation equipment set can be easily interfaced with modules installed at air defense command posts, or completely replace them in constant use. Owing to such universal properties, the replacement of outdated control modules with new modules of the KSA "Barnaul-T" is carried out according to the plan of organizational and staff measures.

KSA "Barnaul-T" can be used not only in the Ground Forces; having the ability to overcome water obstacles, it can be used in the air defense systems of the marine corps, tests of the KSA for the Airborne Forces with the possibility of landing KSA modules by parachute are nearing completion.

The KSA modules themselves can be placed on any means and chassis, the KSA programs allow you to control not only air defense means.

KSA "Barnaul-T" is an open and rapidly developing system. Due to the universal interoperability with obsolete modules, it has a high potential for further modernization. Work is constantly being carried out to expand the range of weapons that are ready to work with the Barnaul-T KSA.

The developer of OAO NPP Rubin and the manufacturer OAO Izmeritel have great opportunities to increase the performance characteristics of a set of automation tools. And with the constant funding of the project, in the next ten years, all air defense forces will be provided with modern automation equipment to effectively repel enemy air attacks.
