The annual practical firing of air defense units takes place at the Ashuluk Astrakhan training ground. The missilemen of the Kola air defense unit in a matter of minutes repelled an air attack of ballistic and cruise missiles of the imaginary enemy. In the language of military missilemen, such exercises are called "air-fire conference".
Anti-aircraft missile firing takes place at a range of 120 by 38 kilometers. The S-300 air defense missile systems conduct aimed fire with combat missiles at training targets.
“Each target has a real prototype: the Boar completely repeats the flight of a ballistic missile and attacks from the near layers of the stratosphere. The Strizh and Armavir targets reproduce the trajectory of a cruise missile strike,”Major General Viktor Bondarev, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Air Force, told reporters.
He further said that during the exercises, in addition to the main shooting, shooting "from the march" was also practiced.
The essence of the maneuver is that, on the instructions of the command, the installations must quickly change their location and attack an air target from a new position.
According to the military command, this year the number of targets for combat crews has been increased and the time to defeat them has been reduced several times: no more than two minutes are allotted for one target. Another feature of the current exercise is that the number of formations fired at the range has doubled.
According to the chief of the anti-aircraft missile forces of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Russia, Major General Sergei Popov, this is due to the fact that in 2009 all air defense units of the RF Armed Forces entered a state of constant combat readiness.
During the exercises at the Ashuluk training ground, 23 missiles were launched at 10 target targets. The exercise was watched by representatives of the air defense forces of our allies - Kazakhstan and Belarus.
