Attempt to create an American "Kalashnikov" - submachine gun "Kriss Super V"

The creation of this model of American weapons was aimed at increasing the accuracy and accuracy of fire when conducting automatic fire. America needed a small weapon to fire.45 ACP ammunition, which has a high stopping power at close range. The development of the French designer Renault Kerbra, who works for the Swiss company "Gamma", was taken as a basis for creating a submachine gun. This company owns the American company Transformational Defense Industries. "TDI" is engaged in the development of experimental and advanced weapons.

Historical predecessor

Renault Kerbra's development was based on the MC 3-1 pistol, developed by the Soviet master of sports in shooting P. Sheptarsky under the name "Record". In 54, Sheptarsky creates a self-loading pistol for use in various competitions when shooting at silhouette targets. The design of the small-bore pistol was fundamentally different from the pistols used in competitions. The main difference is the location of the pistol barrel parallel to the middle finger of the athlete's hand, which had a beneficial effect on the use and production of shooting.

The accuracy of hits on the target has increased, in addition, the firing mechanism has received adjustments that are convenient for athletes.

Thanks to the Tula designers Ferapontov, Nikiforov and Ochnev, who developed the design documentation, sketches and production technology, the pistol with the MTs3 "Record" index was able to enter serial production.

The pistol made a splash in the sports community, it caused admiration and envy among Western shooters, which ultimately led to the fact that at the end of the 16 Olympic Games held in Melbrune, the technical commission of the International Shooting Sports Association introduced a restriction on the position of the pistol barrel relative to the holding hand …

PP device

PP "Kriss Super V" has an automatic design with a semi-free shutter. Automation mechanisms work with a special counterweight-insert, which moves almost vertically behind the neck of the store. The shutter lugs are joined in the inclined grooves of the special insert. When a shot is fired, the return of the bolt is deliberately slowed down by friction against the liner when it is returned to its original state. This significantly reduces recoil and increases the accuracy of hits. The handle was positioned high enough from the axis of the barrel, but the upper part of the butt is flush with the axis of the barrel. This made it possible to fold the vector recoil direction and the stubborn point of the submachine gun. All this, together with the semi-free stroke, made it possible to minimize the recoil and toss of the barrel when firing, only the rate of fire of the PP spoils these achievements.

For more accurate and targeted shooting from the "Kriss Super V" PP, it was equipped with a side-folding butt and a detachable front handle.

Manufacturing options

The results of the first tests of the prototype submachine gun, carried out by TDI, showed excellent controllability during firing, good accuracy of hits and reduced barrel toss when producing automatic fire. These results indicate that the Kriss Super V PP outperforms the well-known American HK UMP-45 and HKMP5.

The first variant of the submachine gun, named "Vector SMG", is intended for use in paramilitary structures such as police, special forces, and the armed forces. The submachine gun has a shortened barrel of 14 centimeters and is equipped with several options for the production of automatic firing.

The second option is called "Vector CRB / SO" and is intended for the civilian arms market. The submachine gun has a long barrel of 41 centimeters, since in the United States it is much more difficult for civilian weapons in short-barreled performance to obtain a license to acquire and use. The barrel is equipped with a muffler simulator to give the submachine gun an aesthetic look. Civilian PP has the ability to fire only semi-automatic. There is also a short barrel version for the civilian market called the Vector SBR / SO. All "Kriss Super V" PPs are equipped with Picatinny rails located on top of the receiver. This will allow the use of various accessories.

The magazine of the submachine gun is Glock 21 compatible, the standard capacity is 13 ammunition, the extended magazine has a capacity of 30 rounds.

Basic data of PP "Kriss Super V":

- caliber 0.45 ACP and 0.40 S&W;

- height 17.5 centimeters;

- length 62 cm;

- weight 2 kilograms;

- adjustable rate of fire from 800 to 1500 rpm.

- sighting range 45 meters.

Additional Information

The cost of one PP is $ 1500-2000, depending on the version.

The attempt to create a massive and inexpensive submachine gun failed. The US military did not see any distinctive features in the Kriss Super V. All analogs are inferior to him in many ways. But having taken it into service with the main personal weapon, it could well have become widespread, like the Soviet Kalashnikov, after all, in fact, they have a lot in common - increased reliability, unpretentiousness and high striking performance.
