Trucks and tractors Kamaz have repeatedly and in different historical periods were recognized as the best army vehicle in the world. Even the authoritative American analytical journal Defense Review had to put it in the first position in its rating of military vehicles. But, as it turned out, this is not the limit at all - this year a new development of the Kama plant, which has no analogues in the world in terms of armor protection and versatility, KAMAZ 63968 Typhoon, will be released for state testing. This machine can withstand explosions with a yield of up to 10 kg of TNT, can be remotely controlled from a satellite, quickly launch unmanned aircraft from its roof and even ambush under water. The Typhoon project entered the TOP-10 list of priority targets for US military intelligence. The new Kamaz is planned to be adopted by the Russian army next year.

The history of the Typhoon family begins in 2010, when the Concept for the Development of Military Automotive Equipment of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for the Period until 2020 was approved by the Minister of Defense. The concept provides for "the development of highly standardized families of armored vehicles." As a result, a single wheeled cargo platform "Typhoon" was created, which ensures high protection of the crew, cargo and vehicle components from small arms and land mines. And also on which you can mount various target equipment and create the necessary modifications on its basis - communication vehicles, mobile artillery systems, truck cranes, transport and launch vehicles for unmanned aerial vehicles, evacuators, excavators and others.

However, this is no longer a project of the Kamsky plant, but a cooperative development of more than 120 enterprises of various industries and science. Under the general coordination of the Military-Industrial Commission, specialists from the URAL automobile plant, OJSC Avtodiesel, GAZ Group, STC OJSC KAMAZ, Research Institute of Steel (car armor), Federal Nuclear Center in Sarov (calculation of security armored hull), the company "Magistral-LTD" (creation of armored glasses), MSTU im. N. E. Bauman (hydropneumatic suspension) and dozens of other companies and research institutes.

The task of the Ministry of Defense included the requirement to arm the vehicle body in accordance with level 3b of the NATO classification STANAG 4569, according to which the vehicle can withstand the detonation of high-explosive fragmentation devices weighing 8 kg in TNT equivalent under any place of the vehicle. Today this standard is the most difficult in the world, only two military vehicles (both American) correspond to it, and their armor technologies are kept secret even from their allies (category 1A according to the Pentagon classification). But the developers of the Research Institute of Steel have surpassed the order - tests have shown that our new Kamaz is capable of withstanding an explosion of up to 10 kg in TNT equivalent.

In addition, the bullet protection showed compliance with the highest - the fourth - level of the NATO classification. A combined nanostructured armor made of ceramics and steel is installed, which protects against armor-piercing bullets of caliber 14, 5 × 114 mm. - an unsurpassed indicator for analogues in service with the countries of the world. The Typhoon cabin is equipped with armored glass with a thickness of 128.5-129.0 mm with a transparency of 76%. Note that the project of a promising armored vehicle of the future for the US Army, which is planned to be brought to state tests at the end of this year, assumes only 72% transparency. The miracle glass developed by Magistral LTD and tested at the Research Institute of Steel can withstand 2 shots with a distance of 280-300 mm when fired from KPVT with a bullet speed of 911 m / s at the moment of contact with the glass.

Bullet resistance exceeds the highest requirements in accordance with the existing GOST (GOST R 51136 and GOST R 50963), as well as the requirements for armored vehicles of the 5th generation, to which NATO countries will switch over the next 10 years. By the way, according to GOST, the highest level is shelling with B-32, 7, 62 × 54 mm armor-piercing cartridges from SVD, which the new vehicle also withstood. Well, of course, it more than meets the western standards of the latest level IV STANAG 4569 - guaranteed protection when firing with B-32, 14, 5 × 114 mm armor-piercing ammunition from a distance of 200 m with a bullet speed of 891-931 m / s. Tests have shown that the new Kamaz is not afraid even of being hit by 30-mm ammunition. Its tires are also bulletproof - 16.00R20 - with anti-explosion inserts that deflect the blast wave, with automatic air pumping and adjustable pressure up to 4.5 atmospheres. The armored module has embrasures for firing and equipment for the operation of a special machine gun, remotely controlled via a satellite communication channel or independently searching for and destroying enemy targets.

In addition, the military notes a special level of comfort and safety inside the hull - the seats are equipped with personal weapon holders, seat belts and head restraints. To reduce the impact of the impact from mines / land mines, they are attached to the roof of the module. In case of an attack with the use of chemical weapons or a gas attack, a FVUA-100A filtering unit is installed inside, which automatically destroys toxic substances in the air. There are escape hatches on the roof in the event of an overturning of the car, as well as a launch and launch complex for unmanned aircraft and helicopters.

The vehicle is equipped with the GALS-D1M On-Board Information and Control System (BIUS) for monitoring and regulating the engine operation, calculating the roll of the vehicle, road inclination, speed, location, etc. It can go on autopilot and perform combat missions on its own. The independent hydropneumatic suspension allows the driver to change the ground clearance on the go, using the remote control within 400 mm. KAMAZ-63968 is equipped with five video cameras for all-round viewing in the landing module and cockpit, integrated into the target detection system, including in the infrared range. When a threat appears within a radius of 5 km, the system automatically transmits information to monitors in the cockpit and through a secure satellite channel to the headquarters.
