A new chapter in the history of British military vehicle manufacturer TMV begins with DVD 2010, where the company showcased an open six-wheeled, four-wheel drive military reconnaissance vehicle for special forces. This presentation took place just twelve months after TMV unveiled a prototype vehicle. The TMV 6x6M SF was developed in response to the changing nature of military threats and their impact on the requirements for the use of vehicles in modern conflict situations. It was created, as they say, from scratch, without making numerous compromises and changes to existing platforms, nevertheless, when creating the machine, the designers tried to use standard components and components as widely as possible.
Variants
The TMV can be produced in 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 wheel configurations using a common chassis and chassis. The modular design of the rear superstructure allows the vehicle to be tailored to the role and intended use. It can be configured with different materials depending on the level of protection required and the required payload. In addition to the special forces vehicle, there are options for an armored personnel carrier, a medical vehicle, a combat platform, an ammunition delivery vehicle, and other applications.
4-wheeled version with a gross weight of 6.0-9.5 tons
6-wheeled version with a total weight of 7.5-18.0 tons
8-wheeled version with a gross weight of 9.5-22.0 tons
Armament
The TMV 6x6M SF car featured on the 2010 DVD features a swivel weapon system with two 12.7mm machine guns, an additional 7.62mm machine gun was installed in the front of the vehicle.
Protection
The TMV 6x6M SF provides increased levels of protection against mines and improvised explosive devices (up to STANAG protection level 4). To achieve the best protection of passengers from the effects of explosions and to minimize the transmitted energy, a "V" -shaped double hull design developed by TMV has been used and is commonly used in the construction of all TMV models. It is made of stainless steel, reinforced with a special armor plate, its shape helps to dissipate the wave energy of the explosion at the point of impact, as well as in the protected passenger compartment. Situated above the unique, integral V-shaped underbody, the modular superstructure is made with multi-layer armor from high-tech materials designed to minimize vehicle weight. It includes steel and composite layers and Plasan's new SMART protective material. This provides STANAG 3 ballistic protection and 2A and 2B explosion protection (6 kg charge under wheel or bottom). In turn, the ground pressure produced by the TMV 6x6M is significantly lower than that of similar vehicles.
Engine and mobility
The TMV 6x6M SF is powered by a mid-vehicle Cummins ISBe5 turbocharged 4500 cc water-cooled four-cylinder diesel engine producing 147 kW (200 hp) and 900 Nm of torque. This allows the TMV 6x6M to reach a top speed of 137 km per hour. The vehicle uses the widely accepted and proven Allison 2500SP fully automatic 6-speed automatic transmission in both military and civilian applications. Six Dana differentials are also installed. The high power-to-weight ratio, combined with permanent all-wheel drive and an adaptive six-wheel steering system, provide excellent maneuverability and high cross-country ability. The fully independent air suspension, complemented by two springs over the shock absorbers on all wheels, provides excellent dynamic performance and crew comfort. The adjustable ground clearance maintains a low center of gravity when used at high speeds, but most importantly, it allows the vehicle to be lifted in the presence of mine threats or improvised explosive devices. The adaptive six-wheel steering system can be programmed to change the steering configuration at the push of a button to suit your specific needs.
The TMV 6x6M SF has an adjustable ground clearance that can be increased in the presence of a mine threat or decreased for high speed operations and no mine threat. The seating arrangement ensures that passengers are positioned as far away from the front wheels as possible while maintaining a high level of visibility for off-road conditions.
