As part of the Army-2018 international military-technical forum held in Kubinka near Moscow at the end of August, the Ural automobile plant presented its new products, including the Ural-53099 protected frame vehicle with an armored single-volume body. The famous Russian military blogger Denis Mokrushin (twower.livejournal.com) talked about the new automobile equipment of the Ural plant with a specialist on the topic (sic). In addition to the updated armored Ural-53099, the Ural-63706-0011 Tornado-U and the Motovoz-M multipurpose vehicle were demonstrated at the forum.
Ural-53099
The Ural-53099 protected frame vehicle with an armored one-volume body was first shown to the general public at the Army-2015 forum. However, since then, the appearance of this armored vehicle has undergone major changes. Representatives of the enterprise explain this by the fact that earlier at the exhibitions a model was demonstrated, a concept designed to indicate a theme. Later, when working on a car at the car plant, they were guided by the opinion of the Russian Ministry of Defense, in particular, on the issue of reducing the cost of the finished product.
The two-axle vehicle from Miass presented at the Army-2018 military-technical forum, according to the developers, can be used to install various weapons and special equipment, perform tasks both in the rear and directly on the battlefield. The cabin of the armored car is made in the hood version. The all-welded hull of the updated Ural-53099 consists of a control compartment designed for two fighters and having two side doors, and a six-seat compartment with two side hinged doors and a hatch located in the stern and leading to the body, from which the exit is through a swing ramp.

To create comfortable conditions for a crew of 8 people, an air conditioner and a heater are installed in the inhabited compartments of the car, and for actions in conditions of contamination of the terrain, the car has a filter and ventilation unit. There is a place on the roof of the cockpit that can be used to install a combat module with weapons.
With a total weight of 14, 5 tons, the car can carry up to two tons of various cargo and tow a five-ton trailer. A hydraulic winch is also installed on the car, which has a pulling force of 8000 kg. The fuel tanks of the armored car with a capacity of 320 liters are distinguished by the presence of a bulletproof polyurethane coating, which excludes the possibility of fuel leakage and fire. The four-stroke gas turbine diesel engine installed on the armored vehicle provides a maximum power of 312 hp. The maximum speed on the highway is 100 km / h, the cruising range is 1000 km.
In an interview with Denis Mokrushin, a specialist of the enterprise noted that the Ural-53099 had been optimized in terms of the aggregate composition, in particular, the aggregates and chassis assemblies are now commercially available. This made it possible to significantly reduce the cost of the car. At the same time, the security indicators remained unchanged, and in terms of mobility, a dialogue is currently underway between the Ministry of Defense and the manufacturer that the required indicators will be met on a conventional suspension with a mechanical transmission. According to a representative of the company, the cost of the car after the changes has dropped at least twice.
At the same time, the habitable compartment was reduced in Miass. According to the ROC, a car was ordered to transport 8 crew members. As a result, they were placed, and making a large protected body (as was the case on the previously presented concepts of an armored car) for some hypothetical load is irrational. Therefore, in the rear of the car there is now a box for spare parts, fuel tanks and space for additional equipment.
According to a representative of the plant, there is a potential for orders for an armored car, but it is usually broken down into specific models. It is simply indicated that there is a need for cars of such and such class, such and such wheel arrangement. They can be purchased from various manufacturers. In an interview with Mokrushin, he noted that so far it is not clear how many cars will be purchased from Ural, as well as certainty as to whether they will be purchased at all.

Tornado-U
For the first time, vehicles with increased payload under the designation "Tornado-U" were also presented at the "Army-2015" forum. In 2018, the exhibition demonstrated the Ural-63076-0011 "Tornado-U" with a 6x6 wheel arrangement. This vehicle is designed for the carriage of goods, installation and transportation of weapons, military and special equipment, towing special and transport trailers and semi-trailers, as well as to protect the transported goods and personnel from firearms and damaging factors of explosive devices. At the request of the customer, the car can be equipped with an unprotected frame-panel or protected armored cab.
Previously, the manufacturer indicated the cab as one of the features of the new machine. The Tornado-U cabin is bonneted, frame-panel, three-seater. It is equipped with heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, which ensures comfortable operation of the car at the declared temperatures from -50 to +50 degrees and the dust content of the air up to 1.5 g / m3. The car has the ability to equip the cabin with a complex of additional protection (KDZ) - armor of the 5th class of protection in accordance with GOST 50963-96 (against armor-piercing bullets of 7.62 mm caliber fired from AKM from a distance of 5-10 meters).
The total weight of the Ural-63076-0011 Tornado-U truck is no more than 32 tons. Car carrying capacity - 16 tons. The car is equipped with an in-line six-cylinder diesel engine with a capacity of 440 hp. The presence of this engine allows the car to reach a maximum speed on the highway up to 100 km / h. And the impressive ground clearance of 400 mm provides the car with excellent cross-country ability. "Tornado-U" is able to overcome fords up to 1, 8 meters deep and ascents up to 60%.

At the end of May 2018, Lieutenant General Alexander Shevchenko, head of the main armored department of the Russian Ministry of Defense, said that deliveries to the army of the latest vehicles of the Tornado family, which in the future will replace the Ural and KamAZ vehicles, will begin in 2018. In an interview with Echo Moskvy radio station, he explained that the Tornado cars are completing a set of state tests. By decision of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, these machines will be re-equipped with tactical units. Oleksandr Shevchenko noted that the vehicles will have a higher carrying capacity (16-20 tons and more) and more powerful engines. According to the general, when creating cars of the Tornada family, the experience of the anti-terrorist operation in Syria was taken into account, in particular, the armor and mine protection of the cars were improved compared to their predecessors.
Answering the question of Denis Mokrushin about whether the state tests of "Tornado-U" have been carried out, the representative of the plant noted that preliminary tests have been carried out, and the state tests are still underway. According to him, the Russian Ministry of Defense has ordered 30 Ural-63076-0011 Tornado-U vehicles with a 6x6 wheel arrangement, which will be supplied to the military after the completion of state tests.
At the same time, in an interview, the specialist noted that reinforced Russian-made bridges did not appear at Tornado-U. Currently, Chinese bridges are installed on the car. The prospects for their production in Russia are vague. Currently, Russian factories do not make such bridges, they are at MAZ and at MZKT, but it has not yet come to an agreement with the Belarusians, negotiations were carried out, but without much progress. It is not profitable for Kamaz, Ural, or bus factories to master their production in relatively small volumes at domestic enterprises. Too large resources will be spent on this.

Also at the military-technical forum "Army-2018", the automobile plant from Miass demonstrated the multi-purpose vehicle "Motovoz-M", which is a development of the already legendary Ural-4320. This vehicle with a 6x6 wheel arrangement is intended for the transportation of personnel, cargo, assembly and transportation of weapons (one of the exhibits shown in Kubinka was a new version of the modernized towed mortar complex 2S12 "Sani" with a 120-mm mortar 2B11, placed on a new truck family "Motovoz-M" with an armored two-row cab), military and special equipment, towing transport and special trailers.
The manufacturer notes that the upgraded vehicle can be operated with trailed systems with pneumatic outlets, electrical outlets, a pneumohydraulic brake system drive, a total weight of up to 11,500 kg and a trailer coupling. At the request of the customer, the car can be equipped with an unprotected frame-panel or protected armored cab.
"Motovoz-M" at the forum "Army-2018"
The six-wheeled "Motovoz-M" presented at the forum is equipped with a YaMZ-238M2 engine, which develops a maximum power of 240 hp. This engine is enough to accelerate a truck with a gross weight of 18.4 tons to a speed of 90 km / h. Carrying capacity reaches 7 tons, the weight of towed trailers - up to 11, 5 tons.
In an interview with Denis Mokrushin, a representative of the Ural automobile plant noted that Motovoz-M is moving from the stage of prototypes to the stage of serial production. There is an intention of the Russian Ministry of Defense to conclude a contract for the supply of these machines, starting in 2019. At the same time, the specialist noted that the volume of purchases of equipment from Ural is now less than it was in the 1990s and even in the early 2000s. Whether this is due to a more rational use of the resource of trucks or a lack of funds, he is not ready to answer.
