The body of the car has two side doors for the driver and commander, as well as a rear double swing door.
Bulletproof glass of sides and doors have mechanisms for opening and fixing in open and closed positions.
On the roof of the hull there is a rear-opening hatch used for emergency embarkation and disembarkation of the crew, as well as for observation, firing and ventilation of the crew compartment.
Also on the roof of the hull there are three racks for mounting installations with a machine gun and an automatic grenade launcher.
The front seats are adjustable with seat belts. They are equipped with waist belts and foldable, tilt-adjustable backrests.
Seven crew seats are installed behind the front seats (three on the left and four on the right). They are equipped with waist belts and folding backrests. The seats can be reclined to increase the loading floor area.
Behind the seats are stowage for spare parts,
armored machine gun installation
and a machine tool for AGS-17.
The body of the grenade launcher is attached to the side behind the driver's seat,
and the machine gun - in the area of the right side of the rear door.
In addition to the main heater built into the engine cooling system, an additional heater is installed in the habitable compartment using internal air.
Available - two air conditioners.
Well, now about personal impressions.
The appearance of the car, of course, inspires respect. To drive a car, the driver must have a license with a category C, (this category is present in the technical passport)
The inhabited compartment is quite spacious and well-lit.
The driver's seat is quite comfortable and allows him to drive the car and observe the traffic situation without much straining. Moreover, the dimensions of the front windows are such that a good view is provided even through only one windshield in front of the driver.
The vehicle commander is also provided with minimal comfort. At his disposal is a seat with backrest adjustment and a slight adjustment in the longitudinal direction. The backrest can also be lowered onto the seat for travel to and from the crew compartment.
A handrail is installed in front of the seat on the control dashboard, where the automatic machine is very conveniently fixed.
A lighting shade is installed next to the handrail. True, I was not able to evaluate his work, since the manufacturer did not consider it necessary to screw a light bulb into it.
Apparently, the presence of a screwed-in light bulb is provided for in the additional configuration J.
The side doors are equipped with folding bulletproof glass, handrails, internal locks and door stops in the open position.
There are pockets in the door trim.
Between the seats is the gearbox railing, which is a solid bollard used as a makeshift table. An additional heater is installed in the rear wall of the enclosure.
The first pair of landing seats are located almost close to the sides.
The other five seats are mounted on wheel arches and are offset to the longitudinal axis of the machine.
The advantage of this is that a space has appeared between these seats and the sides, filled with weapons and equipment. And the downside is that the owners of these seats rest their knees on opposite seats. The seats are located close to each other and in the armor and in the unloading to sit tightly.
Since the left wing of the swing door is the main one, there is no extreme seat on its side, for the convenience of getting in and out.
Buffers are used as steps for landing through the aft doors, but they are too high and do not help heavily loaded soldiers.
Tall soldiers, in close contact with an additional air conditioner, especially did not like its location on the ceiling of the crew compartment. In addition, folding the seat back at the right door is quite problematic, since it rests against the door rail.
The inside of the crew compartment is lined with packets of ballistic fabric. The bags are attached to the body by threading the lacing into welded staples and interconnected with the same lacing. The lacing is covered with Velcro strips.
The side armored glass of the driver and commander opens to a very small angle, just enough to shoot into the ground ten meters from the car
The rest of the side armored glass is fixed in several positions up to an angle of approximately ninety degrees.
The presence of only the third class of protection does not help the crew of the car when firing from Kalashnikov assault rifles with a heat-strengthened core, the presence of which is not at all uncommon in the arsenal of any "forest brothers" who prefer to do their dirty business in the city. Not happy with the lack of bonnet reservation. A few bullets in the engine compartment are enough to turn the car into a pedestal.
The presence of a hatch in the roof does not help either - it is too easy a target for the attackers. In the absence of any protective screens.
The cut-off of the hatch, of course, is not rubberized, which, together with the retainer pin sticking out on the left, makes you be very careful, especially in motion.
It will be difficult for an arrow of medium height to cope with the machine gun turret (it is located above shoulder level). Fortunately, our machine gunner is of grenadier build and he doesn't need to stand on a stool. The machine gun presented a surprise in the form of the absence of one stud for fixing the holder of the ammunition box.
Naturally, when the machine entered the unit, a traditional test for bullet resistance was carried out.
The distance is five meters. Weapon - AK74M and standard PP (7N10) cartridge. The bullet pierced the side, the bullet core pierced the ballistic package and made a dent in the rear door trim.
At the first exit to the operation, the turn signals refused. When driving on the highway, the car easily gave out 120 km / h, scaring away the overtaken cars. However, when braking, the euphoria from the flight was replaced by fear due to the intense wobble of the car due to the malfunctioning of the braking system.
When driving along a mountain serpentine, it turned out that the "bobby" practically "dies". Despite 205 horsepower and turbocharging, the eight-ton iron bowl with bolts and nuts was too heavy for an American diesel.
Then we turned onto a country road and climbed up. The road was a side of a mountain that a grader had walked along. Knee-deep mud and sleet. The track turned out to be too narrow for our car, and it periodically drove into the snowdrifts. Sometimes it skidded so that it moved sideways.
Every now and then the rear doors themselves opened …
Climbing up another hillock, the driver turned off the engine …
And that's all.
She started up only with a "pusher". Fortunately for the people, there was enough, and there was a slight bias.
It turned out that the anchor of the Japanese starter closed and burned out (replacement cost about ten thousand rubles).
All the following stops were made only "downhill".
Thank God that this embarrassment (pushing) took place in a deserted area. If this happened in the village, I would be very ashamed.
At times, the wet forty-fifty centimeter snow was too tough for the Tiger.
- I almost forgot. When pulling out the Niva stuck in a snowdrift, the electric winch “grunted”.
…. We returned at night, under a light rain and a very dense fog. There were no fog lights, of course. And also, naturally, the headlights weren't properly adjusted.
They moved almost by touch, because the wipers were equipped with disgusting quality brushes, simply smearing water on the glass.
But nothing happened, and we made it to base J. on our own.
At the same time with us, SPM-2 was received in another unit. It differs in protection class (5), the presence of two roof hatches, embrasures in non-opening bulletproof glass and the absence of an air conditioner and turrets.
But they were less fortunate.
If our car was assembled in the fall of last year, then the engine of their Tiger, from three years of standing in warehouses, without maintenance, ordered to live a long time.
They say that a representative of the plant is flying out to them.
So that is all.
As the participants of this rally noted: “Diesel is American. But the assembly is still ours."
