At the last meeting of the officers of the naval formations and units of the marine corps of the fleet, the commander of the Baltic Fleet, Vice Admiral Viktor Chirkov, made a rather optimistic statement. “In the coming years, the Baltic Fleet, within the framework of a promising rearmament program, will receive universal surface ships equipped with the most modern weapons,” the commander said. According to Chirkov, the replenishment of the fleet with large and small landing ships and surface universal ships of the "corvette" class, planned within the framework of the rearmament program, will significantly increase the combat capabilities of the oldest Russian fleet.

The Vice Admiral also noted that back in 2010, the Baltic Fleet included such modern ships as: the diesel submarine "Saint Petersburg", the corvette "Guarding", the patrol ship "Yaroslav the Wise"; all ships are equipped with advanced technical equipment and weapons. In the very near future, the Boiky and Soobrazitelny corvettes, which are designed to combat surface ships and submarines, are capable of solving anti-submarine and air defense missions, and provide fire support for the amphibious assault, will take up combat duty.
