The outbreak of hostilities with Germany forced domestic specialists to come to grips with the problem of improving firearms. The available samples had a number of disadvantages, including significant weight, low maneuverability and firing range. To eliminate the existing shortcomings, in particular, to increase the distance for guaranteed hitting the target for 1000 meters, it was decided to develop a new cartridge that combines the advantages of pistol and rifle samples. Leading engineers of the country, collected in scientific laboratories, based on feedback on the quality of their work, which today is replaced by a sample resume, were able already in 1943 to offer a new type of cartridges, with a caliber of 7, 62 * 41 mm. After a short time, an even more improved version of 7, 62 x 39 mm was developed on its basis, for which it was decided to create new types of firearms that embodied all the advanced developments of that time. One of them was the Simonov self-discharge carbine, or SKS for short, released in 1947.
Immediately after the end of World War II, the Simonov self-discharge carbine became almost the main type of weapon for the Soviet army. However, his leading position did not last long - soon he was replaced by AK - Kalashnikov assault rifle and AKM - its newer version, with store food. Nevertheless, in certain branches of the armed forces - in the air defense and communication services - the SCS was used until the 80s. Today, Simonov's self-loading carbine can only be seen during parades on Red Square - due to its aesthetic appearance, the weapon is used as attributes of ceremonial events. Even those who have served in the army in the past few years are already unfamiliar with the principle of operation of this type of weapon, not to mention young people getting higher education and looking for managerial positions for themselves in an effort to avoid military service.
The main advantages, thanks to which the SCS was for a long time one of the main types of weapons in the USSR, were its low weight, the ability to hold a significant supply of cartridges, and also - to fire at a distance of 1000 meters. In addition, experts note the high accuracy of fire, in which the deviation from the main target is no more than 40 cm. Low recoil and the optimal location of the center of gravity made the shooting as comfortable and effective as possible.
