Taking a blank sheet of paper, FN specialists have created a weapon that claims to be the "rifle of the future." The F2000 (military version) and its civilian counterpart FS2000 are ready to prove that tomorrow has already arrived. The only thing left from the past in the novelty is the 5.56 NATO caliber and standard M16 / NATO / STANAG magazines. Everything else is Star Wars worthy.
The FS2000 makes the strongest impression when it is disassembled. The polymer frame consists of two elements connected to each other like a shell. All other elements are modular. Disassembling a rifle and cleaning it, or replacing modular elements is a matter of two minutes. The small amount of metal in the structure is surprising - in some modules, only springs are made of metal. However, the total weight of 3670 grams (for the FS2000) exceeds that of the M4 by almost half a kilo. With a total length of 73.9 cm, the FS2000 is shorter than the M4.
The versatility of the new model is provided by the integrated 25 cm Picatinni rail, on which the telescopic sight is mounted, as well as the receiver plate, which can be replaced with a 40 mm grenade launcher, tactical flashlight and other accessories. The rifle barrel is 44.2 cm long and has a cutting step of 1: 7 . The polymer stock is comfortable and perfectly balanced. The only thing that is clearly lacking is the carrying handle. Smooth curves of the rifle look great, but make transportation impossible. In addition, the first models were not equipped carrying strap.
As for the shooting characteristics, the best performance at the 100-meter shooting range was achieved with the use of CorBon 62 grain DPX cartridges (muzzle velocity - 877 m / s, accuracy of a group of three shots - 1.27 cm).
