In the Ground Forces (Land Forces) of Russia, it is planned to create 47 new military formations by 2020. Their formation is taking place within the framework of a large-scale military reform.
"There will be 42 prospective brigades, there will be 47 prospective military formations, including military bases abroad, which will be built on a similar principle," said on Tuesday, March 15, Commander-in-Chief of the Army Alexander Postnikov, quoted by RIA Novosti.
Currently, there are 70 brigades in the Army, and by 2020 there will be 109 of them (including 42 of the new model).
The ground forces will include heavy, medium and light brigades of the new model. The heavy brigades will be armed with tanks on a tracked chassis with heavy weapons - a 125 millimeter cannon and weighing up to 65 tons, as well as platforms such as infantry fighting vehicles.
At the disposal of the middle brigades will be transferred armored personnel carriers of the "Boomerang" system, the creation of which is now at the stage of development work. Postnikov noted that these vehicles will be floating.
And, finally, light brigades will be armed with armored vehicles of the "Tiger" type weighing up to 2.5 tons. Their use is especially effective in mountainous areas and in the arctic regions.
