A man from another gorge

Chechnya was returned to a peaceful life before it was recaptured. From morning to evening, a "political process" is underway in the republic; candidates for the presidency have already appeared. And with the onset of dusk and before the first rays of the sun, here, as before, there is a war. The words of politicians have nothing to do with the actions of the military. The first say, the second kill. Izvestia correspondents visited one of the special intelligence units of the Defense Ministry in the mountainous part of southern Chechnya. The main task of the scouts is to search for and destroy militants. No trial. As in the war.

Intelligence was humiliated. They ordered to escort two "Nivas" with the village authorities to a meeting in Duba-Yurt.

“This is the responsibility of the local cops,” the intelligence chief is angry. - For which they are paid 15 thousand!

The intelligence chief is 36 years old. Colonel. He graduated from the special forces faculty of the Kamenets-Podolsk military school, the Academy of them. Frunze. In Chechnya, with breaks for vacations and studies, he has been fighting since January 1995. A total of two years. Sabotage specialist. Call sign "Khmury".

Why "Hmury"?

- I don't like to smile …

The driver warms up the BRDM (combat reconnaissance and patrol vehicle). The signalman checks the radio station.

- Get into the armor, - Gloomy commands us, - on the way and we'll talk. You can use a dictaphone, but no surnames, only callsigns. Do not shoot general plans. My face too. The faces of the fighters - with their consent. And the gorge where we are standing, think of another name.

Other is so Other. Inside the BRDM, besides us and Khmuriy, machine gunner Mowgli and mechanic Boomerang. On top of the armor, with rubber mats underneath, sat the Elephant, Komsorg and Patriot.

Everyone chooses the call sign himself.

Portraits of his idols hang in Khmuriy's car. Two opponents. The two founders of the airborne forces in the armies of their states. Soviet General Vasily Margelov and Kurt Student - General of the Luftwaffe.

“All paratroopers in the world are brothers,” says Hmury. - First of all, I am interested in professionalism. Both the Soviet and German paratroopers were good soldiers.

Could you fight not for Russia?

- Only for a lot of money. And only now. And in Soviet times I would never have gone. It was a social justice society. And now I don't feel like a citizen of my country. Russia as such does not exist. Rabble!

Your salary has been delayed since January, there is no Russia, what are you fighting for then?

- For the Russian people. For its small part, which is still preserved. For me, the Russian people are my soldiers.

Who are you fighting with?

- With those who do not want to live in Russia according to our Russian laws, do not want to pray to our faith. Chechens are a bastard nation. There are, of course, good people among them, but most are ugly. From time immemorial, they lived by robbery and murder. They have it in their blood. They even consider their peasants to be suckers. Who is a respected person in Chechnya? Anyone who twists money in Moscow, or has a hundred slaves, or at worst runs through the mountains with a machine gun. Normal Chechens, those that became Russified, have already fled from here. And all the infection comes from the mountains. Who is fighting now? Or the blunt-nosed youth, the Pepsi generation, who grew up in these two wars. Or those who have already poured so much blood that they have nowhere to go.

How many militants are there in the Other Gorge?

- About three hundred, dispersed in small groups of 5-10 people. And while the troops are here, they do not represent a serious force and are engaged only in small sabotage. We have little control over the militants themselves, but we control the territory normally. Therefore, they cannot operate in large groups. They will be immediately noticed and destroyed. If the troops are withdrawn from here, the militants will gather instantly. Everyone will be captured, and those who disagree will be handed down like lice.

If you had to make a decision, how would you deal with the problem of Chechnya?

- I would have brewed such a special thing. To begin with, I would have destroyed the entire top. By any means. Shoot or detonate. I would dump it all on the Wahhabis, and then divide Chechnya between Ingushetia, Dagestan and the Stavropol Territory. There shouldn't be such a republic. It must dissolve among Russia, and the Chechens must be assimilated.

You yourself said that the Russian people are mostly rabble. In whom to dissolve something?

- Give us faith in the future, and we will grind everyone.

Kill without thinking

- Chechen society needs to be sifted, - continues Hmury. - They oppose the sweeps, complain that their relatives are missing. But it's not just that. Normal people do not disappear in Chechnya. Freaks who need to be destroyed, cleaned out disappear.

You kidnap people at night and then destroy?

- 30 percent of them were kidnapped and killed as a result of criminal showdowns between the Chechens themselves. 20 percent are on the conscience of the militants, who destroy those who cooperate with the federal authorities. And we destroy 50 percent. With our corrupt court, there is simply no other way out. If the captured militants are properly caught and sent to the "Chernokozovo" pre-trial detention center, their relatives will very soon ransom them. We began to use these methods when the main groups of militants in the mountains had already been destroyed. The troops stood up. Prosecutors came and began to engage in nonsense, such as establishing peace. Everything must be supported by evidence, etc. Let's say we have operational information that a man is a bandit, his hands are covered in blood. We come to him with the prosecutor, but he does not have a single patron at home. Why arrest him? Therefore, destroying militants under cover of night is the most effective way of war. They are afraid of this. And they don't feel safe anywhere. Not in the mountains, not at home. Major surgeries are not needed now. Need operations night, point, surgical. Lawlessness can only be fought in illegal ways.

Do you like this method?

- Not always. Sometimes innocent people fall under this case. Chechens, however, are now dividing power, it happens, and slander each other. And when we find out the truth, it turns out that it is too late to fix anything. There is no man.

What qualities should a person have to get into your unit?

- He must be able to obey, not drink vodka and kill at any moment without hesitation. There was a case when I was shot in several places just because the fighter's hands were trembling. I began to help him, overlooked my sector and was wounded.

Is it difficult for you to kill people?

- Very hard. It is disgusting to realize that you are depriving a person of life.

But you got over it?

- Hatred helped. The first was killed in battle during the first war. He aimed at me, but I fired first. When you kill in battle from afar, it is not really murder. Murder is when you see the face of the one you are killing. This happened to me already in the second campaign. I had to kill one militant right at the base. He was 15 years old. He ran home from the forest. Relax, warm up. This winter was very hard. He threw the machine gun beside him and slept without hind legs. Then we took it. You didn't even need to beat him. He himself showed where the base is. He was responsible for food in the detachment. They have, after all, how - one, for example, is responsible for weapons, another for ammunition, the third for uniforms. And each hides his own secret from others for the purpose of conspiracy. This one had buried a hefty can of dry meat, a barrel of Rollton soups, a barrel of sugar and sweets. We resisted what we could. And the rest was crumbled, cut, thrown. And this boy was difficult for me to kill. I made him dig a hole so that he turned away so that he would not look into his eyes. And shot him in the back.

Could he have been re-educated or was he already incorrigible?

- Probably it was possible. If you put him in a normal society, give him an education. But he had already been sentenced. We couldn't leave a witness.

What was his name?

- Oh, I don't remember.

War game

- Your parents are civilians. Why did you become a military man?

- From childhood I liked to play the war. We played until the eighth grade. I've always been a commander. He knew how to make a decision, outwit. When the time came to join the army, he bribed the military commissar to get to Afghanistan. I worked as a chauffeur after school. Once I drove in my "Kamaz" to the military registration and enlistment office to inquire about the agenda. And the military commissar says to me: bring me a forest car, I'll give you a reprieve. No, I answer, I want to join the army. Well then, he says, I'll send you to the best troops for a forest car. Wherever you wish. Airborne, I say, Afghanistan. They shook hands, I brought him this forest, and he called my mother. Like, you have a good son, prepared for the army, asking for Afghanistan, do you mind? In short, I had to serve in Germany.

The "Nivas" with the village bosses disappeared around the corner.

- Boomerang, look for a place to turn, - ordered Gloomy. - We return to the base. Then they themselves will reach.

P. S

- Okay, that's enough. I have already spoken to you about the two Hague Tribunals.

Why did you tell us all this?

- I'm tired of the chaos. Maybe people will read the article and something will move in their ugly brains. Can not be so. I'm not completely crazy here, but I've ruined something important in myself. To kill a man like two fingers … I don't feel anything.
