At the exercises that we attended, we finally managed to get to know the "Resident" better. Indeed, this station aroused my personal interest, since in our time this has not yet been invented. And so it worked.
I must say right away that despite the fact that the R-330Zh was adopted for service in 2008, the station has already undergone modernization. Therefore, we were not allowed inside the fully deployed station, for there was something that we were not supposed to see. Photo of the entrails - from the old "Resident", so to speak.

The station is used both as part of the R-330M1P "Diabazol" automated jamming complex, and it can also operate autonomously. But with less efficiency. This is a classic RF jamming station. But the complex "Resident" may contain the following:
1. Automated detection, direction finding and analysis of signals from radio emission sources in the operating frequency range.
2. Setting radio interference to portable and mobile ground stations (subscriber terminals) of satellite communication systems "INMARSAT" and "IRIDIUM", navigation equipment of users of the satellite radio navigation system "NAVSTAR" (GPS) and base stations of the cellular communication system GSM-900/1800.
3. Automated information exchange with a similar station to ensure synchronous direction finding of radio emission sources in order to calculate their coordinates. An information exchange can also be conducted with the base control point in order to receive a mission to conduct combat work.
4. Maintaining cartographic data with displaying information about explored sources of radio emission against the background of an electronic topographic map of the area or in a grid of rectangular coordinates.
Now the name is clear. Why "Resident"? Hello to all cellular and satellite communications within the range of the station.
Ways of using R-330Zh:
- autonomously;
- paired with a similar product as a master station;
- paired with a similar product as a slave station;
- autonomously and in a coupled pair under the control of a control center of the R-330KMA type.
Tactical and technical characteristics:
Calculation (crew): 4 people.
Working frequency range:
- when conducting radio intelligence - 100 … 2000 MHz;
- when conducting radio suppression - 800 … 960; 1227, 6; 1575, 42; 1500 … 1700 and 1700 … 1900 MHz.
Types of jamming signals: sighting in frequency, sighting and barrage in frequency, barrage in frequency.
The radio suppression range of the equipment of ground consumers is 20 … 25 km.
The radio jamming range of consumer equipment installed on aircraft is at least 50 km.
Power supply can be carried out from an industrial network or our own diesel power plant 220 / 380V, or in emergency mode from 24V batteries.
Deployment (folding) time - no more than 40 minutes.
The downside, in my opinion, is the rather lengthy deployment procedure. Installing antennas is a very delicate and complicated process, as it turned out.
The antennas are installed manually, using mechanical winches, and the main difficulty lies in the synchronization from the installation. In short, several hemorrhoids, here mechanization would definitely not hurt.
In the frame is the generator that powers this module.
But in general, a calculation of 4 people really sets everything completely in 40 minutes.

When the "Resident" is working, then you can forget about any connection in the specified range. It just won't be there at all. And two stations, working in pairs, are quite capable of stunning a millionth city.
What it is like to be left without a mobile connection in our time is probably not worth talking about. Of course, the entire specified range will not work at once "Resident", but this is not necessary. It is enough to know the frequencies of the provider companies, and …
The station is capable of operating simultaneously on 12 channels. In general, more than enough for everyone to immediately remember about wired phones.
The only negative is that the "Resident" in the radius of action knocks down everyone, both friends and foes. Therefore, in the process of work, a notification is made by cable phone for their own. In the same way, they inform about the end of work.
Of course, a station that has been operating for a long time can be detected by the source of radio emission and try to eliminate it with missiles or artillery. Therefore, the antenna module is made remote, if it arrives, then at least the calculation will survive. Of course, little will save you from shelling in the area, but the station is really small, so the probability is low.
I asked the guys from the calculation, if he bakes, how much can you collect? The answer was encouraging: 20 minutes after the first break, we would no longer be here. But the enemy will need to somehow be guided, corrected. How will they do it? Indeed, the Diabazol may include not only the Residents, but also the modernized Borisoglebsk-2, capable of shutting down the entire army VHF communications.
