The 227th artillery brigade in Adygea will be made one of the most advanced in the Russian army. Not only the latest technology and automated control systems (ACS) and drones will be brought to Maikop. They will work deep behind enemy lines and transmit precise target coordinates to the "batteries". And the artillerymen "two hundred twenty-seventh" will only have to press buttons, as if in a computer "shooter".

Smart artillery

As Konstantin Sivkov, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Rocket and Artillery Sciences, told Utru, it will be possible to aim and fire, thanks to the automated control system, almost in real time. A few years ago it was impossible - they worked only the old fashioned way: the gunners on the spot determined the coordinates of the target, using intelligence data and personal experience.

Now, according to the expert, the team itself will find the target. Including behind enemy lines. In this case, the artilleryman automatically receives all the data for conducting accurate fire. Including the possible consumption of projectiles.

The role of scouts will be performed by drones, which, through GLONASS, will transmit the target coordinates to the system. The head of the center for military forecasting, Anatoly Tsyganok, remembers well the times when such technical innovations could only be dreamed of.

“Twenty years ago, we carried out reconnaissance only on airplanes, sometimes helicopters. The risk was always great. With the advent of drones, many casualties were avoided,” says the retired military man.

Maximum firepower

The 227th brigade will receive the latest weapons. Now the brigade has 152-mm self-propelled howitzers "MSTA-S" and multiple launch rocket systems "Uragan".

"And this year, Coalition self-propelled guns and Tornado-S multiple launch rocket systems will be brought to Maykop. Guided munitions will also be a good help. For example, the Krasnopol adjustable laser-guided projectile is suitable for the Coalition," says Konstantin Sivkov.

Self-propelled gun "Coalition" hits 70 kilometers. And this is twice as far as the same "MSTA-S". It is easy to imagine how much the brigade's firepower and range will increase. As for the Tornado-S MLRS, which entered the Russian army only in December last year, suffice it to say that one salvo of the system covers an area of 67 hectares. This is about a hundred football fields. However, destructive power is not the main trump card of "Tornado-S". Her strong point is the most automated shooting. There is even a bike in the army that the system can successfully fire before all the shells have reached the target.

Why is the 227th brigade needed?

Why does Russia need such power on the southwestern frontier? According to Anatoly Tsyganok, one of the brigade's main tasks is to contain NATO's aggression in the Black Sea. It is no secret that recently the ships of the alliance have significantly increased their activity off the Russian coast.

According to Konstantin Sivkov, the 227th brigade covers the Georgian-Russian border. Official Tbilisi has long dreamed of joining NATO. Thus, in November last year, joint exercises with the alliance were held in Georgia. They were attended by the military of eleven member countries of NATO. Even then, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that "Russia sees in such activity a serious threat to stability and peace in the region."

The expert admits and the containment of possible aggression of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It's no secret that official Kiev considers Moscow to be its main enemy. Theoretically, in the event of a conflict, the 227th artillery brigade can come to the aid of the 150th motorized rifle division in the Rostov region. We must not forget about the NATO member countries - Bulgaria, Turkey and Romania, where the Americans have deployed an anti-missile defense base that can directly threaten Russia.

Back in the ranks

Finally, the revival of the 227th Brigade is a tribute to the traditions of Russian artillery. "Two hundred twenty-seventh" traces its history from January 1943 - then it bore the name of the 81st cannon artillery brigade and went through almost the entire war. She was awarded the Orders of Suvorov and the Order of the Red Banner. And for the liberation of Tallinn from the German fascist troops, it was honorably called "Tallinn".

In the 90s, the brigade went through both Chechen campaigns. And in 2009 it was disbanded during the military reform of the ex-Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov. Now, after the revival, it is honorably called the 227th Tallinn Red Banner Artillery Brigade of the Order of Suvorov.
