Russian specialists are developing advanced anti-missile weapons, said the commander of the Space Forces, Lieutenant General Oleg Ostapenko. He said that new radar stations are expected to be deployed in dangerous areas. In addition, Russia intends to modernize its orbital constellation of dozens of military satellites.
"The transition of the anti-missile defense system to a modern element base is being completed, high-performance specialized electronic computing facilities are being commissioned. At the same time, work is underway to create promising anti-missile weapons. This will significantly expand the combat capabilities of the system," RIA Novosti quoted Ostapenko as saying.
The general assured that the Russian missile defense is in a state of constant combat readiness. "Together with the missile attack warning system, it ensures the implementation of the nuclear deterrent strategy," the commander emphasized. Space Forces. Oleg Ostapenko also said that several new radar stations are planned to be built in the coming years. They will replace the previous models and will allow maintaining continuous control over all directions from which a missile strike may follow.
Currently, one new generation station is already on alert in the Leningrad Region. The second is being built in the Armavir region. "Now it is being tested by Space Forces officers together with representatives of the manufacturer. After completion of construction, completion of experimental combat duty and commissioning, the Armavir station will be put on alert," Ostapenko assured. He noted that this equipment consumes much less energy than previous models, and allows several times to reduce the number of maintenance personnel.
The lieutenant general also said that "it is planned to develop a space echelon of a missile attack warning system," Interfax reports. Oleg Ostapenko recalled that currently the domestic orbital constellation has more than 110 satellites. About 80% of them are military or dual-use. At the same time, Russian specialists are already testing new spacecraft, created at a modern level and using innovative technologies.
“In the next few years, it is planned to update almost all the key elements of the orbital group in order to increase the efficiency of space systems and complexes in the interests of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. to ensure the solution of tasks both in the interests of defense and security, and in the socio-economic development of the country, the general said.
He said that since the beginning of the year, the Space Forces have placed about 30 satellites into orbit. In the coming months, it is planned to carry out several more launches and replenish the GLONASS group with four more vehicles. The Russian Ministry of Defense also intends to improve the space control system in order to avoid collisions of satellites and the ISS with various debris.
