The Strategic Rocket Forces (Strategic Missile Forces) next year will receive a new batch of special equipment - engineering support and camouflage vehicles (MIOM). These machines are capable of imitating mobile missile systems and rolling false tracks, Interfax reports with reference to the official representative of the Strategic Missile Forces Vadim Koval. MIOM supplies to the Strategic Missile Forces were fully completed in the Teikovo missile formation, it is assumed that in the future these vehicles will enter service with the Novosibirsk and Irkutsk missile formations in the process of re-equipping them with modern missile systems.
As representatives of the Russian Ministry of Defense explained, the new machines allow you to distort real tracks and roll fake ones to false objects and positions, and also allow you to hide the movement of missile systems in their field positions. The presence of these engineering support and camouflage vehicles in the Strategic Missile Forces units contributes to the strengthening of the defense and protection of facilities, and also increases the protection of weapons, military equipment and personnel from the means of destruction of a potential enemy.
MIOM 15M69 is designed for a crew of 7 people and can be used to perform tasks both independently and in conjunction with the Topol-M and Yars mobile missile systems. Each such vehicle is equipped with a special set of graders for imposing false tracks, as well as containers that serve as a visual and, more importantly, a thermal imitation of standard rocket launchers. Each of these machines is able to simulate 1 battalion of 6 ballistic missile launchers.
At present, Russia continues the process of re-equipping the Strategic Missile Forces formations with the most modern and effective military equipment. According to Vadim Koval, in 2012 the troops received about 20 pieces of engineering equipment, as well as 45 tons of various engineering equipment. So, in particular, the Teikovo division of the Strategic Missile Forces in 2012 was replenished with 6 engineering support and camouflage vehicles. In addition, as of September 2012, the Strategic Missile Forces at ¼ were equipped with modern Topol-M and Yars missile systems with new intercontinental ballistic missiles belonging to the 5th generation RT-2PM2 and RS-24.
In addition, by the end of 2012, 40 more units of engineering equipment are expected to be delivered to the troops, which will increase the provision of military units of the Strategic Missile Forces with various engineering weapons by up to 98%. The engineering equipment supplied to the Strategic Missile Forces includes track pavers on a wheeled tractor, bulldozers on an army tractor, universal mine layers, excavators, bulldozers, truck cranes, regimental earth-moving machines, sawmills, as well as various electrical equipment.
MIOM 15M69
The engineering support and camouflage vehicle (MIOM) is designed to implement the tasks of camouflage and engineering support of the missile complex as a whole, or its individual elements during combat duty in field positions, their change, as well as on combat patrol routes. The introduction of these engineering vehicles into the structure of the Strategic Missile Forces combat units contributes to the implementation of such tasks as engineering reconnaissance of field positions and combat patrol routes, including checking the dimensions of the passability of routes and sites, assessing the bearing capacity of their soil foundations, and, if necessary, restoring sites and routes or expanding them. … With the help of MIOM, it is possible to carry out demining of the terrain and engineering reconnaissance of mine-explosive obstacles; blockage clearing; clearing roads at the field positions of launch complexes and their layout.
In addition, MIOM 15M69 is used to perform engineering tasks for imitation and masking, determining the location of units and the slope of the terrain using a navigation system, determining the carrying capacity of bridges located on combat patrol routes using a measurement system to check the status of permanent bridges. Also, the machine can be used for chemical and radiation reconnaissance and a number of other tasks.
The imitation and camouflage means available in the MIOM 15M69 complex allow to carry out measures to imitate and hide missile systems in field positions, as well as distort the traces of the movement of launchers, including rolling traces to false objects and positions, which is especially important when you consider what is the significance of concealing the true location of mobile missile systems. Covert deployment of mobile missile systems makes it possible to protect them from possible destruction even before the launch of ballistic missiles.
Functional purpose of MIOM 15M69:
- preparation of the terrain for field positions of the PGRK and engineering reconnaissance of patrol routes;
- installation of false PGRK on the ground;
- camouflage of PGRK deployed on the ground;
- masking of traces of the PGRK on country roads.
The complex is based on the MZKT-7930 Astrologer chassis. A prototype of a special wheeled chassis with the 8x8 formula was developed at the Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant in 1994. This chassis was created within the framework of the Astrologer ROC according to the Soviet terms of reference issued by the USSR Ministry of Defense and approved in December 1989. The chassis was supposed to replace the MAZ-543 special vehicle and had a three-seat cab with improved ergonomics.
On the basis of the new chassis, it was planned to place a wide range of weapons. Today, on the basis of the Astrologer chassis, such modern weapons as the Iskander OTRK, the Bal-E coastal anti-ship complex with the Kh-35 Uran anti-ship missile system or the Bastion ballistic missile system with Yakhont missiles are deployed. This chassis is also suitable for placing MLRS and air defense systems, combat control facilities, but in total it became the basis for about 100 different solutions. The chassis is characterized by excellent cross-country ability, and its carrying capacity is 24 tons.
The crew of the 15M69 engineering support and camouflage vehicle consists of 7 people, the autonomy of the vehicle is up to 3 days.
Equipment included in MIOM 15M69:
- habitable module for the crew of the vehicle;
- module with a diesel generator manufactured by CJSC "Moscow Projector Plant";
- a grader located in the rear of the machine - designed to mask traces of vehicles on unpaved roads;
- 6 containers Ts45-69 - presumably, each of these containers is an imitator of the SPU or APU PGRK. Thus, the exposure of a false missile battalion in the amount of 6 SPUs is achieved on the ground with the implementation of an imitation of their thermal image.
- sliding overall frames for checking the possibility of movement of the overall SPU PGRK along unprepared routes;
- crane for working with containers;
- equipment for assessing the carrying capacity of road bridges and the bearing capacity of the soil (using an angular measurement sensor, it is determined the possibility of passing the unit by measuring the angles of inclination of the beams).
Electrical control equipment and command devices are manufactured by OJSC "Azov Optical and Mechanical Plant".
It is worth noting that this engineering technique is simply necessary for rocket scientists. She began joining the Teikovo division in 2009. The appearance of such machines in the troops entailed the introduction of new methods of imitation and concealment used by personnel on combat duty on mobile missile systems. The use of engineering support and camouflage machines made it possible to almost 10 times reduce the human labor costs that were previously used to perform the tasks assigned to this engineering vehicle.
