Last year we already published material about the ASP R-330Zh "Zhitel". Today we are returning to this topic, because since it was put into service in 2008, the station has undergone some improvements and has been tested in real combat conditions.

Which ones - since the manufacturer's website does not specify, we will not specify either. Passed is the main thing.

Immediately, however, I note that the lack of mechanization (in the image and likeness of "Krasukha"), which I complained about in the previous article, turned out to be a strong point of the station.

A bullet, a fragment of a projectile or a mine that got into the hull and caught the wires or hydraulic lines would lead to serious problems for the same "Krasukha", despite the fact that there is a system for manually duplicating assembly / disassembly mechanisms of the antenna module. It's a question of time.

The station is powered by a three-cylinder diesel generator from Lombardini. Italian…

We talked with the calculation of the ASP and learned about some aspects of using the station, as they say, first-hand.

As we were personally able to see that not all the stated performance characteristics are accurate. If we talk about the time to bring the station to combat readiness (declared 40 minutes), then a well-trained and trained crew is quite capable of meeting in a shorter time. We have witnessed this.

If the situation develops in such a way that you need to quickly leave in order to avoid it, then it is even easier. All working equipment is mounted in the back of the "Ural", and the trailer with antennas and a diesel generator is uncoupled within a few seconds. More precisely, the cables are uncoupled, the trailer, and so should stand at a fair distance from the aggregate.

There are a lot of smart rockets and other nasty things that can be targeted by exhaust heat or radio emission. Since everything noisy can be carried away from the control room, the problem is, as it were, solved.

The station performs detection, direction finding and analysis of signals from radio emission sources in the operating frequency range quite successfully, the same applies to suppression.

It crushes everything.

As an example, we were shown a new navigator "Perunit-V", which is included in the "Resident" package and works in the GLONASS system, of course. Noise immunity, reliability of operation and other pleasures were brought to naught at the touch of a button on the keyboard of the complex. The photo and video show that the navigator, confidently showing its location, stopped doing it.

What was happening with our phones at that moment, I think, is not even worth talking about. By the way, this also applies to WiFi lovers in full.

At the same time transmitting interference through 12 channels, the "Resident" is able to leave without communication both GSM cellular subscribers (as well as CDMA, JDS, DAMPS subscribers), and users of the INMARSAT and IRIDIUM satellite communications systems.

For navigation equipment, that GPS, that GLONASS, only zeros on the screens shine.

Barrage, sector, directional, noise - full spectrum.

The "Resident" also has one "cute" feature. R-330Zh can act not only as a suppression station, but also as an electronic reconnaissance point.

The complex is able not only to detect and suppress communication devices in the designated ranges, but also to do something more, namely, to determine the coordinates of the device, display it on an electronic topographic map of the area or in a grid of rectangular coordinates and track possible movements of the object.

With the subsequent aiming at the object of whom? That's right, special counteraction teams. Or, alternatively, missiles with an appropriate seeker. As was the case with Dudaev, for example.

So it is better to forget about the use of cellular communication in places where the R-330Zh can work. Especially considering that the error in the bearing of the radio emission source is no more than 2 degrees.

This is about autonomous work, with which the "Resident" copes well. But there are methods of using this ASP that can significantly increase efficiency.

What can be more effective than the "Resident"? It's simple. Two "Residents".

R-330Zh can be paired with a similar ASP. As a leader, when the first station makes reconnaissance, identification of targets and target designation, and the second carries out suppression together with the first.

Either both stations operate in the RER (electronic reconnaissance) mode and are engaged in "tracking" targets on the map. Thus, you can cover up a fairly decent area. Approximately 40 x 20 km, where all living things will be left without communication and navigation.

But the maximum effect is obtained by using the R-330Zh under the control of the R-330KMA, a mobile electronic warfare command post.

PU R-330KMA fully assumes the planning of radio reconnaissance and radio suppression of the ASP, which can have up to 20 units in the network. ASPs communicate with the CP via telecode radio relay channels.

Knowledgeable readers will now say: so what? There is a map on paper, there is a compass, there are azimuths and landmarks by which it is quite possible to get to the object.

I agree. And in normal armies there are specialists who can do without all this electronics. But these are high-level specialists, and as the hostilities in Donbass showed, cellular communication is a very simple way out, and it was used on both sides of the front.

If it is necessary to completely cover a particularly important object or area, the R-330Zh simply "plugs the hole" that remains after other stations completely suppress the air on the frequencies of army and civil radio stations.

Considering how communications are developing today, what a smartphone can be turned into (from a navigator to a ballistic computer) is a very useful business.

In "Krasuha", of course, it is more spacious.

But it is possible to solve the problems that have been voiced even in such conditions. Which is exactly what the guys are doing. And, judging by the reaction of the command, they know how to do it perfectly well.
