The commanders-in-chief were pleased with the results. Defense ministers were pleased with the results. Everyone is happy with the results. Except … Europeans and Central Europeans. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said so bluntly:
"The training questions have been worked out with good quality …" "The tasks for joint defense were solved at the proper level …" "All the goals were achieved …"
He did not even leave the Europeans hoping for a "victory". I took it in Russian, no, in Belarusian, off my shoulder … answered the tricky question from the western side. Well, remember, "But Putin and Lukashenko did not watch the exercises together!.. So they had a fight!.." No, Alexander Grigorievich could not restrain himself. They agreed, you see, to control the teachings more broadly. Where is it wider? There were so many controllers. One, therefore, in the north, and the second in the center.
For some reason, it seems to me that after these exercises, the attitude towards us on the part of the same Baltic states and Ukraine will worsen. And rightly so, by the way. We deceived their expectations! Do you know what is the difference in the perception of teachings in Russia and in the Baltics? Believe it or not, just one word!
Read your own expressions that you use when describing the situation with the Baltics or Poland. Not mine, but your own. You write something like this: "If Russia …" Well, and further. And in the same Lithuania the word "if" is not. The word "when" is used there. By the way, the paradox of the situation also lies in the fact that the bursting "soap bubble", which Western politicians cherished for more than six months, "spattered" even the Germans. Many people have probably read frequent references to German intelligence in Western media. Such a "know-it-all" of the democratic world … But the teachings are over. So what?
The Germans are beginning to ask … The same Die Zeit writes that "the agitated minds that have been trying to convince us for the last six months that the maneuvers of the two allies within the CSTO will be the beginning of the third world war, again unreasonably sounded the alarm."

But the most interesting thing, as always, was learned by the Ukrainian intelligence. How can it be without the "defenders of Western democracy." Moreover, the normal citizens are well aware of what these exercises were conducted for. Russia does not need this very Baltic and Poland in FIG. She needs to take over Ukraine. They talk about this not only on the most square. Read the opposition media outlets in Russia and Belarus. The truth cannot be hidden from the people. Here is the opinion of one "smart man":

Got caught, in short, we are like chickens in the pluck. Our security agencies are weak. All our secrets are known to the Europeans. And I suspect that the "moles" have buried themselves in the highest headquarters. Otherwise, how to explain this knowledge:

Looking through foreign publications, more and more often I catch myself thinking that … the exercises "West 2017" are very similar to the sanctions against Russia. Everything is so similar that it is stupid to even assume further developments. Everyone and everything is clear.
Russia has spent a certain amount of money on the exercise. Belarus has spent funds for the same purposes. The tasks assigned to the armed forces of both countries have been completed. Look like that's it.
Is it? And what happens when new restrictions are imposed on us? After a very short time happens? Right. Indignant cries are beginning to appear that those who impose them, and not Russia, suffer more from these sanctions. The search begins for "loopholes" and "service entrance" behind. Everyone wants to eat. And preferably not just bread, but with butter …
Now look at what is happening around Russia today. How many exercises that cost money go through. How many units, subunits, ships, planes are involved in these exercises … We, with our 13 thousand, almost never dreamed of so much.
And this is where the transition from playful scoffing to serious things is passed. To something that really needs to be thought about. Have you ever thought about why so much attention was riveted to ordinary teachings? Why were all the statements of the presidents of Russia and Belarus about the defensive nature of the exercises "not noticed"? Until the very last moment, European politicians, even on the rostrum of the UN General Assembly, were talking nonsense about Russia’s working out the seizure of Europe. Did people of the level of defense ministers of a large European country seriously talk about a nuclear strike?
There are a lot of materials in the press today about the past exercises. But, if you pay attention, the West has already developed the point of view about which I wrote above. Most of the townsfolk do not doubt Russia's desire to "seize and annex" … And from here? Hence the simple conclusion. NATO is simply obliged to protect Europe from the eastern barbarians. In other words, the alliance must respond to the aggressive policies of the Kremlin.
And what is the answer in this case? Alas, all the answers have long been found and have already been used somewhere and somewhere. Including against us. The West will create a "quarantine zone" around Russia. In what form is not very important. It can also be missiles, like the Moldovan or Polish missile defense forces. These may be peacekeepers on the borders with Russia in "hot spots". It can be a primitive placement of units and subunits on our borders. There are many forms of blockade.
The main goal is clearly set. NATO is obliged to completely block all borders of Russia! At the same time, one should not pay attention to conversations about offensive weapons, the offensive nature of the exercises. God - God, Caesar - Caesar, and locksmith - locksmith! The main thing is that the Western man in the street is sure that all this is happening for the sake of his safety.
Moreover, I am not afraid to go further in my assumptions. If you "gather together" the upcoming events, you get an oil painting … The situation in Donbass has once again reached a dead end. The contradictions in the demands of the parties not only remained, they increased even more. Neither side intends to retreat. The situation with Crimea remains in limbo. The West remains in its position, Russia in its position. And no one intends to retreat either. Does this mean new sanctions?
But the most important thing is the upcoming presidential elections in Russia! According to the experience of the Western elections, Europeans and Americans believe that at the moment of the election campaign, the power in the country will "shake." Putin will be busy with his own PR and the fight against competitors for the Kremlin seat. His team, which today is really doing everything to keep Russia strong and independent, will also "go into disarray." This is the best moment to "help" the opponents of the incumbent president.
Therefore, it is necessary to be ready for provocations not only in the political and economic spheres. I think that this winter, and even more so next spring, may bring us surprises even in the military field. I do not at all rule out military provocations on our borders. Forecasters predict a cold winter, but it seems to me that it may become "hot" enough …
I don’t want to end on a serious note. Moreover, I am sure that the conclusions that I came to were drawn by more knowledgeable people a long time ago. And they took appropriate measures. And for those who think that people in Russia cannot "calculate" their clever designs, I will recall a line from my son's essay. The apple falls not far from the apple tree.
