The other day the serial corvette "Boyky" was launched - the second ship of project 20380, which was built for the Russian Navy in St. Petersburg at the shipyard "Severnaya Verf".
The lead ship of this project "Guarding" was commissioned into the Baltic Fleet in October 2008. For the creation of this ship, a number of Severnaya Verf employees were awarded state awards in accordance with the decree of the President of the Russian Federation, which was issued at the end of 2009. In March 2010, the first serial corvette "Soobrazitelny" was launched, the entry of which is planned for the Navy this year. Currently, construction work is underway to create the Stoyky corvette.
When developing the project of this ship, the specialists of the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau applied all the latest achievements of shipbuilding science. More than seventy industrial and research enterprises took part in the development of project 20380 to create a corvette. The ship's systems are equipped with modern integrated information systems that were developed at Russian enterprises. The physical fields of the corvette were also significantly reduced. When creating the ship, a low-combustible fiberglass plastic with radio absorption properties was used as a superstructure material. This, as well as the architectural layout of the superstructure and hull, made it possible to significantly reduce the ship's radar signature.
This type of ships is fundamentally new in terms of its combat properties and tactical and technical characteristics. Its main advantages are a high level of automation and integration of control systems, stealth, compactness and versatility.
The purpose of ships of this class is to combat submarines and ships, provide artillery support for the landing and actions of amphibious assault, as well as provide air defense. The corvette has a displacement of about 2,000 tons, an autonomous navigation range (at a speed of fourteen knots) - 4,000 nautical miles, a maximum speed of 27 knots and a total length of 105 meters.
The creation of ships of this class served as a powerful impetus to the revival of the Russian industry in the development of high technologies. At the moment, the shipyard "Severnaya Verf", which has almost a century of history, is one of the largest enterprises in the Russian Federation, which specializes in the construction of warships for the Navy. During the creation of the ships, the specialists of Severnaya Verf applied such innovations as the longitudinal recruitment system. The plant's designers have developed the first ship-based steam turbine. And the destroyer built at this enterprise became the first ship that was equipped with an anti-ship cruise missile. The missile cruisers, which were built at the Severnaya Verf shipyard, became the first domestic ships to carry nuclear weapons, and were also equipped with the world's first naval gas turbines and helicopter landing pads.
Today, Severnaya Verf has a qualified staff and production capabilities that allow the construction of ships and vessels with a maximum displacement of up to 12,000 tons and a launch weight of up to 7,000 tons. During the serial construction of corvettes at this enterprise, at the expense of public and private investments, the main production assets were reconstructed - the crane facilities, the boathouse, the production preparation workshops (pipe-working, welding and assembly, hull-processing) were repaired and re-equipped. Also, on the basis of an electronic three-dimensional model of the ship's hull, a joint technology of computer design and technological support of the project was developed.
Currently, the Severnaya Verf shipyard for the Russian Navy is building the frigates Admiral of the Fleet Kasatonov and Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov. The mission of these ships will be not only the conduct of hostilities in the near and distant sea zones, but also in the oceanic zone.
