Something happened that many had known for a long time, but spoke only in a narrow circle. Ukraine is actively looking for sponsors to revive its defense industry. Moreover, Kiev is ready to completely "give" production to sponsors in exchange for investment.
In principle, the Ukrainian defense industry is capable of producing almost the entire range of weapons. More precisely, it was capable. This is what pushes Ukraine into the clutches of sponsors today. Given the presence of sufficiently qualified personnel, enterprises that previously produced weapons and military equipment, Ukraine today cannot do this.
The past quarter of a century for the defense industry of Ukraine was the years of the "solemn burial" of everything achieved during the Soviet period. The factories "kept" to a greater extent on Russian orders. But this situation was largely unprofitable for Ukraine.
At the end of Boris Yeltsin's rule, Russia faced roughly the same situation. The United States suddenly became concerned with the defense industry of our country. Moreover, the negotiations were conducted at various levels. And the money was huge. But Russian politicians were smart enough to turn down the tempting offer. Why?
The fact is that the main condition of the deal was the production of components. In other words, Russia was deprived of the right to produce the final product. Imagine, Russian factories have produced everything that is necessary for the production of a tank, but the tank itself is assembled in another country. And, accordingly, this country also gets the rights to this tank.
Thus, the United States received the arms market almost solely. Russia was simply removed from the market. And it was cleaned with our own hands.
What are accessories? Details and assemblies, nothing more. Like a grenade without a fuse. It seems like a terrible weapon, but almost useless in real combat.
Exactly the same negotiations have been conducted since the beginning of the 21st century with Ukraine. They are conducted with varying degrees of intensity. Why was the media silent about this? It's simple. While Ukrainian factories were busy fulfilling our orders, Kiev did not have a special need to meet the Americans halfway. Why slaughter the goose that lays the golden eggs?
But after the last Maidan, the situation changed. For the sake of political goals, Kiev decided to break off military-technical cooperation with Russia. The result is deplorable. It turned out that what the Ukrainians, once quite deservedly, were proud of, today are simply outdated factories and production facilities. Moreover, they are so outdated that, instead of modernization, they require almost complete replacement of machines and equipment. Otherwise, it's a shame to even talk about the quality that is needed today.
Poroshenko and the company understood perfectly well what had happened. But it was no longer possible to return everything to its original position. Russia is engaged in import substitution. Especially in the defense industry. Remember the victorious reports of the Ukrainian media about the stoppage of the construction of ships due to the lack of Ukrainian engines, about the delays in the release of training aircraft and other things?
However, already in 2016, Russian analogues of Ukrainian products appeared. And where such an analogue has to be waited for some time, units from other countries have appeared. But not Ukraine.
The Americans continued to negotiate without rushing things too quickly. What for? The situation created in Ukraine plays into their hands. The state is falling apart. The economy is in deep crisis. This means that after some time Kiev will not only agree to all the proposed conditions. Moreover, he himself will offer such an option.
We have often heard about the adequacy of Western politicians. The West and the United States do not give Ukraine lethal weapons because they understand that they will be used to kill the Ukrainians themselves. Well, the rest of the performances are about the same style.
And almost no one had a simple question: "Why did the West take care of the lives of Ukrainians?" Why did not the murder of old Soviet weapons concern Europe and America, but modern weapons care? The universal answer: modern weapons are more effective, which means more people will die.
Agree. But, modern weapons provide huge advantages to one of the parties. Syria shows this perfectly. A war in the style of World War II is no longer relevant for developed countries. Today it is not at all necessary to throw soldiers into a bayonet attack. It is enough to use modern weapons. Without direct contact of armies.
Have you forgotten the main principle of any Western policy? Nothing personal, just business! Western business no longer wanted just a sales market. Western business wanted the remaining Ukrainian potential and technology. It is in the defense industry. The politicians simply fulfilled the order.
Now, when the Kiev authorities have realized that the country is on the edge, the moment has come when the Ukrainian defense complex can be "taken with bare hands." Now Kiev is ready to give up everything for the sake of maintaining power. Give back with gratitude. This is exactly what the Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States, Valeriy Chaly, announced.
On the air of the 112 Ukraine TV channel, he stated that it is extremely desirable for Ukraine to organize a joint production of lethal weapons on Ukrainian territory. Moreover, Chaly hopes for the consent of Washington.
"I know that the issue of providing lethal weapons is a sensitive issue. And, in truth, it is not the supplies themselves that are important, but the signal … This is my idea, which has a chance to be implemented, - to produce weapons in cooperation with the Americans on Ukrainian territory, - this is how Mr. Chaly explained his position on the air of the TV channel."
The head of the Ukrainian diplomatic mission noted with a certain degree of confidence that after his statement, America would "give a signal" to provide Ukraine with "lethal weapons."
