MLRS "Fadjr-5" is designed to destroy the following targets:
-points of communication and control;
- missile launch sites;
- firing artillery positions;
- means of radar detection;
- administrative and political centers.
MLRS of the Fadjr project began to be developed in the 80s of the last century on the basis of Soviet MLRS based on the technologies of North Korean comrades, specialists from Shahid Bagheri Industries. The firm is one of the divisions of the Aerospace Industries Organization of Iran. MLRS "Fadjr-5" began to develop in the 90s.
The first MLRS "Fadjr-5" had the chassis of a serial Mercedes-Benz 2624 truck with a 6x6 wheel formula.
The cabin of the machine is of a sealed type, the propulsion system is installed in the front. The latest cars are already produced on the chassis of the Mercedes-Benz 2631 truck, the same chassis is used on the Fadjr-3 MLRS.
Consisting of 4 tubular guides, the artillery unit is assembled in one horizontal row. There is no exact data on the design features of the rocket artillery vehicles of the Iranian armed forces, but judging by the video-photo materials, the guides have at least one guide-type groove for the driving pin of the rocket ammunition. Before firing, the vehicle is fixed with 4 jacks. Directly behind the main cockpit, a booth is made for personnel - the MLRS calculation. When firing, special blinds are lowered on the booth. On the left side, at the end of the machine, manual drives are installed to guide the batch installation in azimuth and elevation angles. Used rocket ammunition - 333 mm unguided projectiles (NURS). They are provided with a stabilizer block and after launching the projectiles, the stabilizing blades open. Stabilization in flight occurs due to the rotation of the projectile around its longitudinal axis.
Used warheads (warheads):
- high-explosive;
- high-explosive fragmentation;
- incendiary;
- smoke type;
- cassette.
The weight of the warhead is 90 - 175 kilograms, depending on the version. On some warheads, a percussion-type head fuse is installed. Ammunition for the MLRS is stored and transported, each in its own capping. The mass of the ammunition in the cork is 1210 kilograms. The launch of rockets is possible both in a salvo and in a single mode. The average time between the launch of each projectile is in the range of 8-4 seconds. After completing the assigned tasks and shooting the installed ammunition, the MLRS "Fadjr-5" vehicle goes to the technical position. The ammunition is loaded using a truck crane.
The last machines were modernized and they began to install an FCS on them - an automated fire control system. The OMS carries out all the necessary data calculations for the production of fire, guidance of the batch installation and the launch of the NURS from the installed control cabin or remotely, using the remote control, at a distance of up to one kilometer. A modern addition to the Fadjr-5 MLRS is a network communication system that provides centralized control of the firing of several MLRS vehicles (battery) from a command and staff vehicle at a distance of up to 20 kilometers. KShM and RZSO machines can be combined into a single network and for the destruction of targets it is possible to use machines of several batteries (parts).
According to the Iranian military, the Fadjr-5 MLRS can operate in conjunction with a naval radar to search for surface ships. This will allow the use of the "Fadjr-5" missile launcher as an anti-ship weapon in the coastal zone or during the landing of an enemy amphibious assault. To increase the anti-ship power, instead of the standard NURS, it is possible to use unmanaged rockets of the Raad or Noor type.
Fadjr-5 MLRS vehicles are in service with Iran, Syria, Libya and the Lebanese paramilitary organization Hezbollah
