In the mid-90s of the last century, the AEK-919 Kashtan submachine gun was developed at the Kovrov Mechanical Plant chambered for the 9x18 PM cartridge. The Austrian submachine gun Steyr MPi-69 was taken as a model for the creation of a new weapon by the Kovrov gunsmiths, but after the release of the first trial batch of "Chestnuts" a number of significant shortcomings were discovered, so the new submachine gun was redesigned. The updated Kashtan received the AEK-919K index and is currently actively advertised and offered for service to the crews of military vehicles and aircraft, as well as for special forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

PP AEK-919K Kashtan is built on the basis of automation with a free shutter. To reduce the size of the weapon, a bolt of the type running on the barrel was used. The fire is conducted from an open bolt, the fire mode switch, it is also a fuse, is located on the left above the trigger guard, it has a major drawback, it is problematic to remove the weapon from the fuse with your right hand without rotating the PP in the palm of your hand. for a person with long fingers. Standard sighting devices consist of a front sight and a flip rear sight at two distances of 50 and 100 meters, in addition, the latest versions of the Chestnut can be equipped with removable collimator sights ("red dot") and a laser designator. The buttstock of the AEK-919K is retractable, made of metal, the butt pad, when extended, can be rotated downward by 180 degrees for a more comfortable attachment. Carrying weapons is carried out using a loop belt, which is attached to the swivel butt pad of the receiver.
