In the period from 16 to 20 June this year. in the suburbs of Paris, an exhibition of weapons Eurosatory-2014 was held. The beginning of this exhibition was laid back in 1967. The exhibition itself is held under the patronage of the French Ministry of Defense. The frequency of the exhibition is once every 2 years. The main topics are military equipment and armament of the ground forces, air defense equipment, and in addition, computers, communications equipment, logistic support and simulators, products intended for peacekeeping operations and humanitarian assistance, for the fight against terrorism and security.
The exposition is located on an area of about 120 thousand square meters. The organizers say that the exhibition was visited by official delegations from more than 105 countries of the world. This year, about 1,500 foreign companies from 57 countries announced their participation in the exhibition.
Ukraine was represented by the state concern "Ukroboronprom" in the framework of the arms exhibition. Its joint exposition was formed by such companies participating in the concern as "Ukroboronservis", "Ukrspetsexport", "Kharkov Design Bureau for Mechanical Engineering named after Morozov "," Kiev plant of automatics them. Petrovsky ", state design bureau" Luch "," Izium instrument-making plant ".
The Ukrainian delegation was headed by Yuriy Tereshchenko, who is temporarily acting as general director of the Ukroboronprom concern.
The stand of the Ukrainian delegation was presented with the latest weapons, including mock-ups of armored personnel carriers BTR-4, BTR-3E1, MBT "Oplot", anti-tank complex "Sarmat".
Separately, it is necessary to say a few words about the new version of the Ukrainian BTR-3, presented at the French exhibition.
The manufacturer recommends this armored personnel carrier for arming the Ukrainian armed forces, as well as for the armies of other countries. It was developed and constructed at the Morozov Mechanical Engineering Design Bureau. The BTR-3E1 has a great chance of winning its niche in the light armored vehicle market.
The BTR-3E1 armored personnel carrier is a wheeled amphibious combat vehicle weighing 16 tons. She has high firepower and mobility. The crew consists of 9 people: vehicle commander, gunner, driver and six paratroopers.
The armored personnel carrier presented at the exhibition was equipped with a combat module from the Belgian company CMI Defense.
This combat module is a remote-controlled medium-caliber fighting compartment. It is a derivative of the Cockerill Defense Weapon Module (CPWS), designed for guns with a caliber of 20-25-30 millimeters. In the Ukrainian version, a 30 mm ZTM-1 cannon of Ukrainian design and production was installed. The rate of fire of the ZTM-1 cannon is about 300 rounds per minute. The gun ammunition consists of 150 rounds placed in the ammunition boxes of this module. Several types of shots can be used if the gun is equipped with a dual feed system.
The Cockerill combat module itself is able to protect the gun not only from ballistic threats, but also from environmental influences. In addition, it enables the crew to reload weapons from under the armor.
The gun itself is fully stabilized, so it can be aimed vertically within the range from -10 to +45 degrees. The panoramic sight, which is provided with an elevation angle of up to +60 degrees, as well as a dual-mode day and night stabilized sighting system, equipped with a laser rangefinder, are easily integrated due to the standard CAN architecture.
The combat module, at the request of the customer, can have a hatch, which is very convenient for the commander to use for a direct view of the surroundings.
The standard armor provides protection level 1. The armor can be enhanced up to the 5th level by installing hinged additional armor.
If we talk about the chassis, the BTR-3E1 is equipped with the Ukrainian UTD-20 diesel engine, assembled in Tokmak at Pivdendizelmash. Its power is 300 horsepower, and it can be successfully operated at temperatures up to +50 degrees in the shade. It should be noted that this engine is very simple and unpretentious to use, and besides, it is versatile, because it can be refueled not only with diesel fuel, but also with aviation kerosene. This engine has a cruising range of about 750 kilometers on the highway. On the Ukrainian armored vehicle, it is also possible to install power plants of not only Ukrainian and foreign manufacturers.
A manual transmission is installed on the BTR-3E1, which significantly reduces the cost of an armored personnel carrier. All wheels of the armored personnel carrier (and there are eight of them) can be "dressed" not only in domestic tires from Dneproshina, but also in modern tires from the French manufacturer Michelin. It should be noted that the tires from the Ukrainian manufacturer are perfect for hot climates and make it possible to make the most of the engine power, thanks to which the armored personnel carrier can reach speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour on the road.
The body of the vehicle is welded and equipped with armored steel of Ukrainian production. The armor is additionally reinforced with a Kevlar layer. Thanks to such armor, the crew of the armored personnel carrier is protected from bullets of 12, 7 mm caliber. The design of the armor in the undercarriage provides good protection against explosion when hitting an anti-tank mine. The height of the troop compartment has been increased, which makes the crew members feel more comfortable. In addition, an air conditioner can be installed on the armored personnel carrier.
Armored personnel carrier BTR-3E1 - amphibious. The jet propulsion unit is located at the rear of the hull. To overcome the water obstacle, the driver must, without leaving the car, raise the water deflector and turn on the bilge pumps. The speed of the car in the water is 10 kilometers per hour.
Installed on an armored vehicle and protection devices against the influence of penetrating radiation during the explosion of nuclear weapons, to protect against radioactive dust, toxic substances and bacterial agents when the armored personnel carrier moves through the contaminated area.
The BTR-3E1 armored personnel carrier is equipped with a panoramic panoramic video camera, which, if necessary, extends over the combat module on a special rod and thus provides an all-round view in the near zone around the vehicle.
If we talk about the standard BTR-3E1, then the manufacturer has provided for the installation of an uninhabited remotely controlled Shturm module, the weight of which is 1.3 tons. The effectiveness of this weapon is achieved due to the sighting and observation complex and the "Trek" fire control system. A thermal imager can be integrated into the system. The detection range and target recognition in this case depends on the characteristics of the selected thermal imaging camera.
In addition, this armored personnel carrier can also be equipped with a new Ukrainian-made combat module "Sarmat", which, by the way, was also presented at an exhibition in Paris. The manufacturer demonstrated this development for the first time. The module was designed and manufactured by the state enterprise "GossKKB" Luch ", which is part of the concern" Ukroboronprom ".
"Sarmat" is intended for installation on combat vehicles, small ships, as well as coast guard boats. According to the director of the enterprise, Oleg Korostelev, this combat module is designed to destroy moving and stationary armored targets, which are equipped with combined, monolithic or spaced armor. These can be small-sized targets with dynamic protection, in particular, tanks in trenches, long-term firing points, hovering helicopters, lightly armored objects, surface targets. The effectiveness of the complex is the same during the day and at night.
The "Sarmat" includes: a turntable with guides for missiles, a power unit, a guidance device, a machine gun, a thermal imager, a remote control, as well as two guided missiles RK-2S or 4 RK-3, which are placed in transport and launch containers. The missiles were also produced at the Luch enterprise. The operational range of the combat module when firing a RK-2S missile is 5 kilometers, a RK-3 - 2.5 kilometers, and a machine gun - 1.8 kilometers. Thanks to the guidance device, which was produced at the "Izyum Instrument-Making Plant", accurate targeting is provided, as well as missile flight control at a distance of up to 5.5 kilometers. The process of targeting and tracking is implemented through a geared rotary mechanism.
By the way, this Ukrainian combat module "Sarmat" has already been installed on the Canadian-made Varan 6 × 6 armored personnel carrier presented at the exhibition. In addition, the Canadian company also presented at the exhibition the Warrior combat vehicle with the Belarusian Shershen-D anti-tank missile system and Ukrainian RK-2 missiles produced by the same Luch State Design Bureau.
Thus, we can say that Ukrainian enterprises have reached a high level of technological and technical integration with international manufacturers. In addition, such a deepening of international cooperation opens up new sales markets for Ukraine, and also enables the Ukrainian OP to master innovative solutions, expanding the product line.
