Many media outlets in Russia have replicated the opinion of the popular German magazine Der Spiegel, which indicates that the Russian military-industrial complex is not able to properly ensure the quality of products and, in this regard, Moscow is forced to go to huge costs to purchase foreign weapons. In connection with such a statement, the German edition makes assumptions about who will get the 500 billion euros that Russia can spend on maintaining and strengthening a foreign manufacturer of weapons and military equipment.
What are the assumptions and conclusions drawn in a German newspaper and later supported by Russian publications based on? They point out that over the past two years, during various international exhibitions, a somewhat strange phenomenon can be observed - Russian generals ignore the stands of domestic manufacturers, and focus on the exhibition departments of foreign manufacturers.
The German edition went further in explaining its findings. So, in particular, it is indicated that directly from the walls of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation there is information about the lag of Russia in terms of the quality of products not only from the NATO alliance countries, but also from China. As confirmation, the data related to the purchase by Russia of the French helicopter carriers "Mistral" and the statements of Alexander Postnikov, the commander-in-chief of the ground forces of the Russian Federation, who spoke rather negatively about the quality of the products of the domestic military-industrial complex, are cited. In particular, Der Spiegel drew considerable attention to Postnikov's criticism of the T-90 tank, which allegedly is significantly inferior in quality and cost to the German Leopard. However, even the journalists of the German edition doubted the correctness of the assessment given to the Russian military-industrial complex by the Russian general. They pointed out that the Leopards, despite their high quality, are more expensive than their Russian counterpart.
Postnikov's remarks drew a wave of criticism from Russian tank builders. For example, the Ural tank manufacturers said that the Ministry of Defense continues to spend colossal funds on the repair of old equipment and completely refuses to purchase new samples.
Der Spiegel also points to the fact that the last three Russian state armament programs remained unfulfilled: out of 116 ordered aircraft for the Russian Air Force, only 22 were put into operation, and only three out of 25 ships. Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov reported in March that the plan for rearmament of the Russian armed forces had failed.
But nevertheless, despite the facts cited in an authoritative German publication, it should be noted that NATO is courting Russia in every possible way in terms of supplying combat helicopters for the conduct of hostilities in Afghanistan. And isn't it too early for the Western press to bury our defense industry? And it looks all the more strange how the Russian press supports foreign colleagues who, despite their objectivity, still have far from friendly feelings towards Russia and its military-industrial complex.
