Paris Air Show 2011 - June 21, 2011 MBDA PRESENTED CVS401 PERSEUS PROJECT:

MULTI-PURPOSE UNIVERSAL heavy strike complex of long-range weapons for 2030 and for the long term. Designed for land and sea based.

"CVS401 Perseus is the perfect synthesis of the latest advances and anticipated innovations in the near future. The ambitious project envisions equipping promising offshore platforms by 2030 to gain superiority at sea."

The complex is designed to replace the current generation of heavy anti-ship and cruise missiles.

The CVS401 PERSEUS system under development will be capable of launching, if necessary, from sea and land mobile platforms, submarines and patrol aircraft. The universal SU will allow attacking sea targets, stationary and mobile land targets. The modular compartment of the warhead will accommodate warheads of the required power.

The system initially includes the ability to overcome the most effective missile defense / air defense systems. The complex is designed for tactical weapons systems operating through complex communication links at the junction of sea, ground and air combat missions.

High-strength ultra-light composite rocket body, with low ESR, will allow maneuvering at cruising supersonic speeds of 2.5 M.

In the manufacture of materials used with increased stability at high temperatures. The spatial structure was calculated using complex computer simulations.

Engine: compact multi-mode direct-flow solid propellant supersonic continuous combustion, on the principle of continuous wave detonation -technology CDWE (fuel and oxidant mix at the front of the detonation wave).

Project
Project

CDWE technology also reduces the likelihood of fuel igniting before the combustion chamber.

These unique characteristics in terms of thrust and momentum open up the possibility of making a rocket body of small dimensions and launch weight, but with satisfactory parameters of the destructive warhead.

CVS401 PERSEUS is a weapon of breaking through enemy defenses at a distance of up to 300 km and is effective for use against fast-moving, maneuverable targets, which it can reach in a matter of minutes.

The weight of the rocket is about 800 kg, the size is 5 m. VHC coincide with the parameters E xocet (MM.38, MM.40, MM.40 Block3), which completely solves the logistic aspects and without any problems will allow you to place on existing carriers and adapt the PU, with minimal modifications.

Extremely low flight profile: 2m above the water, 5m above the ground. Warhead weight = 200 kg + 2x 40 kg.

Speed at 3M, at sea level 2M, cruising speed 2.5M

(according to some experts / Diehl Stiftung & Co. KG /, in order to achieve such indicators, at least 12 years are required for forced research).

The terms of reference of the concept include the ability to carry either a warhead of increased power, or the main warhead (in the hull) and two additional detachable warheads for individual guidance, in this case, the CVS401 PERSEUS simultaneously acts as a delivery vehicle and as an independent weapon.

Image

This innovation will allow either to increase the engagement zone of a large object (the deck of an aircraft carrier) or to hit a group of ships in an order (escort and the main guarded object)

The overall effectiveness of the weapon in communication and its flight characteristics (maneuverability, speed), as well as the possibility of detecting it by sensors of missile defense / air defense systems, EPR, the effectiveness of the warhead have all been evaluated and calculated using the latest digital modeling systems.

The control system of the complex will be integrated into the general combat network, target designation can be given by its own carrier, third-party UAV, satellite, aircraft, ship, sabotage group.

High mobility, short delivery time, quick response to the task at hand, variability in warhead power, the ability to hit several targets simultaneously - allow the missile to be used for counter-terrorist operations

State-of-the-art dual-mode sensors-sensors, combined in batch: AESA (AFAR radar) in combination with a laser navigation "radar" (LADAR / LIDAR) allow to carry out all weather operations with any external target designation source. Multi-mode radar - SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) and DBS (Doppler Radar) allow you to detect targets in a given range of distance.

The overall reliability of the weapon system is underpinned by an advanced hybrid navigation system.

According to military experts, in 15-20 years the main threat to the NATO Navy and the targets for the developed complex can only be the Russian and Chinese navies and (with a low degree of probability) the Argentine Navy.

The rest (except for NATO member countries) candidates for dominance in the Ocean in the next 50 years are not expected.

The current favorites in the anti-ship missile market are:

L = 8.22 m D = 533 mm Launch M = 2300 kg Warhead = 400 kg High-explosive fragmentation or cluster Firing range = 220 km V flight On the march = 0.8 M Target: 2.9 M Trajectory: 20-10 m

Image

L = 8, 9 m, D = 0, 7 m, Mass: 3100 kg Speed at height: 750 m / s (2, 6 M), Speed at the surface: 2 M

Range: along a combined trajectory (the length of the final section is 40 km) - 300 km

low-altitude trajectory - 120 km, flight altitude 10-14000m

As you can see from the above technical characteristics, CVS401 PERSEUS has significant superiority, especially in terms of: warhead mass / launch mass, dimensions, flight profile, cluster warhead.

However, not everything is so tragic. CVS401 exists so far only, at best on paper, an intensive R&D stage is underway.

But do not lose sight of the fact that all components can be reproduced at the existing technological level of technology, except for the unique engine, of course …

While there is time for an "asymmetric" answer, it is worth considering the potential of MBDA and the colossal manufacturing capabilities.

MBDA (Matra BAE Dynamics Alenia) address: 37 boulevard de Montmorency 75016 Paris France.

MBDA is the only global concern capable of designing and manufacturing missiles and missile systems for the full range of modern and future operational requirements of the three branches of the armed forces (land, sea and air).

Overall, the group offers a wide range of 45 missile attack systems and countermeasures.

The turnover of the company in 2010 reached € 2.800.000.000. Has clients in more than 90 armed forces around the world.

An interesting fact: in the video demonstrating the capabilities of the CVS401 PERSEU, the anti-ship missile attacks something similar to the promising US destroyer Zumwalt type.
