On the first day of summer, sailors from Severomorsk, representatives of the "youngest" and at the same time the most formidable of all the fleets of the Russian Navy, celebrate their holiday.

The youth of the Northern Fleet is, of course, conditional. It appeared 86 years ago - on June 1, 1933, and initially had the status of the SVF - the Northern Military Flotilla. However, less than 4 years later, the SVF received the status that it still retains - the Northern Fleet.

Today, the Northern Fleet of the Russian Navy can be considered almost an independent military district, based on the forces and means that the Northern Fleet of the Russian Navy possesses. This is a powerful coastal component, the Air Force and Air Defense, submarine forces, and a ship group. And that is not all. In addition to a purely power component, the Federation Council has its own naval museum, a song and dance ensemble, a wide infrastructure with various components, including training and educational.

The commander of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Navy since May 2019 is Vice Admiral Alexander Moiseev.

The Northern Fleet de jure remains the only Russian fleet in which there is a full-fledged aircraft-carrying (aircraft-carrying) component. But here it is worth recalling that at the moment the only domestic aircraft carrier "Admiral Kuznetsov" is at the repair and modernization stage. According to the responsible persons, the renewal of the "Admiral Kuznetsov" will be completed in the previously established terms and the well-known incident with the sunken floating dock in the Murmansk region will not affect these terms.

Usually, when talking about the fleet, the emphasis is placed on its combat strength, but today, on a holiday day for the North Sea sailors, it is worth mentioning the cultural content of military service. It is worth noting that just a few years after the formation of the fleet itself, the aforementioned song and dance ensemble was organized in its composition. It appeared in July 1940, while the decision was made at the highest level - the People's Commissariat of the USSR Navy. The collective in Polyarny was named the Red Navy Song and Dance Ensemble.

Moreover, it initially consisted of only eight people. However, every year the number of the ensemble became more and more.

It is difficult to overestimate the importance of the contribution made by the representatives of the Northern Fleet ensemble during the war years to raise the morale of the North Sea sailors. The creative team from June 1941 to May 1945 gave about three thousand concerts.

Thanks to the creative work of the ensemble, a wonderful song "Farewell, Rocky Mountains" appeared, which E. Zharkovsky and N. Bukin wrote specifically for the Northern Fleet of the USSR Navy. The song became a real anthem of the Northern Fleet.

The geography of the performances of the North Sea artists eventually went beyond the borders of the Fatherland. In addition to performing in various cities of our country, the creative team traveled half the world, having been on tour in Scandinavian countries, in the USA, Canada, Cuba, Spain, the Netherlands, France and other countries. And everywhere the performance of Russian sailors was greeted with delight. The performances demonstrated to foreigners the rich Russian naval culture, the depth of traditions and the fact that the Northern Fleet is not only about missile salvos and combat patrols.
