At HeliRussia-2012, Rosoboronexport is presenting a wide range of Russian-made helicopters in military and military transport versions.
For the opening of the HeliRussia-2012 exhibition, TsAMTO publishes statistical data on the global military helicopter market.
According to TsAMTO, in 2012-2015. helicopter technology will take the second place in the structure of world military exports, second only to military aircraft in the categories of conventional weapons.
Military helicopters (including attack helicopters, anti-submarine and naval patrol helicopters, heavy transport helicopters and multipurpose helicopters) will have the most significant share growth in the total balance of the world arms trade.
For comparison: in 2008-2011. military helicopters in terms of export volume ranked fourth among all categories of conventional weapons (yielding to military aircraft, as well as the categories of "armored vehicles" and "naval equipment") with export sales in the amount of 21, 23 billion dollars. In 2012-2015. the volume of export sales is projected in the amount of at least 51.5 billion dollars. With this indicator, the category "military helicopters" will immediately move from 4th to 2nd place.
The calculation includes deliveries of new helicopters, licensed programs, deliveries from the Armed Forces of exporting countries, repair and modernization. The value of the supply is estimated in current US dollars at the time of the conclusion of the contracts. The calculation was made as of the beginning of April 2012.
Russia in the global military helicopter market
Russia is one of the world leaders in the military helicopter industry. In recent years, the production of Russian helicopters has been increasing annually by 20-30%, and, according to forecasts, by 2015 Russia will occupy at least 15% of the world helicopter market.
Russian Helicopters OJSC (part of OJSC OPK Oboronprom) plans to deliver about 3.6 thousand helicopters in 2011-2020, including 1420 units. - civil and 2180 units. - military (according to the materials of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation).
The volume of deliveries for 2011 was projected at 267 vehicles, for 2015 - 324 vehicles, for 2020 - 442 vehicles.
It is assumed that the share of Russian Helicopters in the total balance of world supplies will increase from 11% in 2011 to 17% in 2020.
The export component of deliveries of helicopters manufactured by the enterprises of the Russian Helicopters holding, taking into account deliveries under contracts through Rosoboronexport, annually makes about 50% of the total supply with small annual fluctuations.
Of the 2,180 military helicopters that are planned to be delivered in 2011-2020, just over 1,000 helicopters will be delivered under the state defense order of the Russian army. The remaining helicopters (about 1,150 vehicles) are planned to be exported.
Rosoboronexport promotes to various regions of the world military transport helicopters of the Mi-17 type, transport and combat helicopters Mi-35M and Mi-35P, combat helicopters Mi-28N and Ka-52, heavy transport helicopters Mi-26T2, as well as light multifunctional helicopters Ka-226T and other machines. These helicopters are not only not inferior to foreign models, but surpass them in many respects.
According to the Rosoboronexport press service, over the past five years, the supply of military helicopters through Rosoboronexport has quadrupled, increasing from 15 delivered helicopters in 2007 to 99 helicopters in 2011. Moreover, in total in the period from 2001 to 2011. Rosoboronexport has delivered more than 420 helicopters to 33 countries of the world.
At the end of 2011, the figures announced by Rosoboronexport practically coincide with those of TsAMTO (the difference is only a few cars).
The results for 2011 became the most impressive in terms of helicopter export volumes in the modern history of Russia, therefore, the results for 2011 are discussed in more detail below.
In the rating of the 10 most significant events in the segment of the export of military helicopter technology in Russia at the end of 2011, TsAMTO included two contracts and 8 delivery programs (under previously concluded agreements).
As of the current moment, Russia continues to participate in several international tenders for the supply of military helicopter equipment. For a number of them, Russia has a good chance of success. At the same time, it should be noted that Russia's biggest failure in 2011 was the Indian Air Force's loss in a tender for the supply of attack helicopters.
When distributing places in the ranking, not only the volumes of contracts or supply programs were taken into account, but also their significance in terms of the prospects for further development of cooperation with a particular country, a particular region, as well as the "novelty" of a particular market.
The first place in the TSAMTO rating at the end of 2011 is held by Rosoboronexport's contract with the US Army Command for the supply of 21 Mi-17V-5 military transport helicopters to the Afghan army.
Subsequent places in the ranking are occupied by the following programs.
2. Start of implementation of the program with India for the supply of 80 Mi-17V-5 helicopters under the contract signed in December 2008.
3. Completion of the contract with China for the supply of Ka-31 helicopters.
4. Contract with Sri Lanka for the supply of 14 Mi-171 helicopters.
5. Completion of the contract with Peru for the supply of two Mi-35P and six Mi-171Sh helicopters.
6. Completion of deliveries of 22 Mi-171E helicopters of the Iraqi Air Force.
7. Delivery of two Mi-171E helicopters under a contract with Argentina.
8. Program for the delivery of Mi-17V-5 helicopters to Indonesia.
9. Delivery of three Mi-17V-5 helicopters to the Land of Thailand.
10. Start of deliveries of Mi-35M helicopters to Azerbaijan (besides the purchase of Mi-35M, a number of large programs for the supply of helicopter equipment, including the Mi-17-1V, are being carried out with Azerbaijan).
In 2011, Russia implemented more than a dozen more programs with foreign customers in the military helicopter segment, which were not included in the TOP-10 (this applies to both supply programs and the conclusion of new contracts). In particular, these are countries such as Algeria (negotiations), Armenia (supplies), Brazil (contract underway), Venezuela (contract underway), Ghana (negotiations), Kenya (supplies), Mexico (contract), Myanmar (supplies), Poland (supplies), Syria (supplies), Ecuador (supplies) and others.
Below, for a more comprehensive assessment of the world market for military helicopter technology, a summary analysis of four types of helicopters is given. Only deliveries of new helicopters are included in the calculation. The calculation was made as of the beginning of April 2012.
