A set of guided weapons of domestic production KM-8 "Gran" for smooth-bore and rifled mortars of 120 mm caliber is intended for the destruction / destruction of single and group targets or objects of unarmored, armored design and fortifications. The main developer is the Tula Instrument Design Bureau.

Composition of KM-8 "Edge":

- mortar round - 120 mm guided mine;

- variable propellant charge;

- automated fire control means "Malachite", consisting of a commander's control panel and a laser rangefinder-target designator with a thermal imaging sight;

- means of communication.

Automated means provide the complex with the maximum possible mobility, use in rough terrain - in narrow passages, with high drops of natural shelters and back slopes. With their help, it is possible to fire at selected targets from several mortar guns, which will not create problems for each other and work only on specified targets. The complex can be used at any time of the day, day or night. Mortar self-propelled guns can independently aim a shot using a 1D22 laser-type rangefinder, without using the automated means of "Malachite".

Combat use of KM-8 "Edge" - firing at any time of the day with the destruction of the assigned targets with the first shot without sighting shots at stationary and moving targets. The defeat of the following targets located in the 300-meter zone of the first shot is carried out at a single firing angle without setting different firing settings in the shot. The mobility of the KM-8 is due to a specialized fire control automation system, which provides illumination of detected objects in any terrain, topographic referencing with orientation of the OP and CPN, automation of calculation actions and the installation of the received data for firing. When assessing the effectiveness of the combat use of the complex, it was revealed that using a small number of 120 mm guided mortar rounds it is possible to hit target targets with great efficiency, while it is no longer effective to fire at targets with conventional mortar and artillery weapons.

The basis of the KM-8 "Gran" complex is a high-explosive fragmentation mortar round with a laser-type 9E430 homing head.
