Golan armored personnel carriers, manufactured by RAFAEL, are designed to transport critical cargo and escort convoys. The Golan was first tested in September 2006, shortly after the end of the Lebanese war. A versatile wheeled vehicle can be easily transformed into a combat vehicle, ambulance or mobile command post.

The body of the Golan armored personnel carrier - V-shaped, welded, made of steel armor plates, is a monocoque structure. The armor of the Golan armored personnel carrier was developed as part of the Merkava tank program (Israel) in cooperation with the American company PVI (Protected Vehicles Incorporated). The armor allows the vehicle to withstand machine gun and rocket fire. The combat weight of the armored personnel carrier is 15 thousand kg, of which about 50% falls on the reservation. The engine compartment is located at the front of the hull. The power plant is a Cummins diesel engine with a capacity of 315 hp. Behind the engine-transmission compartment there is a command and control compartment and an airborne compartment designed to carry 10 infantrymen. The landing and disembarkation of the landing force and the crew is carried out through the aft ramp and roof hatches (made above the corresponding places).

The troop compartment has observation windows and embrasures for firing personal weapons. The driver's vision is provided by viewing windows with bulletproof glass, which are covered with armored strips. Inside, the troop compartment has a coating that protects against chipping of armor when hit by an armor-piercing bullet.

Israeli-made armored personnel carriers have increased resistance to improvised explosive devices and medium-power mines (the vast experience of commanding military operations affects). This stability is ensured by the reinforced armor of the lower part of the hull and the V-shaped bottom of the vehicle. Reactive hybrid armor is installed outside on the sides of the hull. The Golan armored reconnaissance vehicle has three levels of protection. The basic level provides mine protection and protection against armor-piercing bullets of caliber 7, 62 mm. An armored reconnaissance vehicle, according to technical data, can withstand the explosion of fourteen-kilogram mines under any wheel and seven-kilogram mines under the bottom. Intermediate level: heavier tiles are used to protect against 14.5mm armor-piercing bullets and 20mm shells. With the maximum level of protection, the armored personnel carrier is capable of withstanding the hit of a hand-held anti-tank grenade grenade. All three levels can be set in the field. The use of different levels of protection does not affect the silhouette of the vehicle, therefore, it is impossible to determine the level of armor protection by external signs.

A Cummins diesel engine, an Allison 6-speed automatic transmission, and a tight turning radius ensure good flotation and controllability. The car's suspension is dependent. The all-wheel drive chassis of the armored reconnaissance vehicle has a 4x4 wheel arrangement. The front wheels are steerable. The Golan is capable of a highway speed of 95 km / h and has a cruising range of 550 km. Golan has an ABS system and a centralized tire pressure regulation system. In the absence of pressure in the tires, the machine is steered.

The vehicle can be equipped with various weapons - large-caliber machine guns and automatic grenade launchers in turrets, small-caliber cannons and anti-tank guided missiles. The basic design can be supplemented with "plug-ins", for example, a system of protection against snipers, remote control stations for weapons or reactive armor.

Five modifications of Golan have been developed: transporter, control vehicle, ambulance, reconnaissance and technical vehicle. help. Depending on customer requirements and conditions of use, Golan can be equipped with additional security elements and have different levels of security.

Golan armored vehicles were purchased by the American armed forces (60 vehicles) for use in Iraq. Depending on the level of protection, the cost of one machine to manufacture will be about 600-700 thousand dollars.
