The fact of the transfer of new equipment was noted in the press release of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sakhalin Region, which reported on a working trip on June 1, 2012, of the heads of the Sakhalin Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to the place of temporary deployment of their police officers in the North Caucasus, and the transfer of new armored equipment to them - the armored car “Bulat »In the amount of one copy. The heads of the Sakhalin UVMD arrived in Mozdok (the city of the Republic of North Ossetia), where they solemnly presented the registration (number) plate for the armored vehicle to the commander of the Sakhalin OMON. After that, according to tradition, a bottle of champagne was smashed against the body of the car and "Bulat" was put into operation of the combat vehicles of the Sakhalin OMON.
BM "Bulat" was created on the basis of a 3-axle KAMAZ with a 6x6 wheel arrangement. The developer is the Fryazinovo research and production association "Zashchita", which is a business partner of OJSC KAMAZ. The armored protection of the new vehicle is declared in class 6A, which will withstand aimed fire from any type of small arms. The trademark distinction of the armored car is the armored capsule of the troop detachment, which houses the personnel of the special forces, developed by domestic designers NPO Zashchita. The armored capsule is made using anti-explosive materials with an anti-explosive device installed. According to the available information, the capsule will withstand the detonation of an explosive device in TNT equivalent equal to 20 kilograms. The car weighs about 10,500 kilograms and has a maximum travel speed of 120 km / h. According to the results of closed tests, taking place in the winter on the territory of Sakhalin, the armored vehicle showed excellent mobility and the ability to overcome various obstacles at a high level.
This is another armored development from the Zashchita Corporation, which is widely known for its armored vehicles of the Scorpion series, and for the armoring of domestic and foreign civilian vehicles. The developers practically did not previously report on the development of the Bulat armored vehicle, possibly because Zashchita recently joined the development of armored vehicles based on KAMAZ - Shot / Dozor. These armored vehicles, after the demonstration by KAMAZ together with the Urals, of the Typhoon modular armored vehicle, faded into the background and further work on them is being carried out very slowly. It seems that BM "Bulat" is an attempt to give these machines a second chance by upgrading them to the "MRAP" standard. Externally, the Bulat armored vehicle is similar to the Shot armored vehicle and to the BTR-40 and BTR-152. The given characteristics of the new vehicle make one think about the implausibility of the mine protection characteristics, since even if an armored module can withstand the detonation of 20 kilograms of TNT under the bottom, the 10-ton "Bulat" will still turn over and the personnel in the module will definitely suffer. if he doesn't die.
