The Kel-Tec KSG shotgun or smoothbore shotgun was developed by the privately-owned Kel-tec CNC industrie in the United States. Kel-tec CNC is well known in the civilian arms market for its innovative and proprietary solutions. For the first time, a smooth-bore shotgun officially appears for all to see at the ShotShow weapons exhibition, held in the vicinity of the Sands Expo & Convention Center, located in Las Vegas on January 18, 19, 20, 21, 2011. Weapons were supposed to go to the masses at the end of last year. The weapon has a rather unusual design for this type of weapon, small dimensions and significant ammunition. The main purpose is a self-defense weapon for the civilian population, it is also of interest as a weapon for security units and police forces. Externally, the Kel-Tec KSG smooth-bore gun resembles the South African "Neostead" weapon. But the design of these shotguns is almost completely different.
Functional principle and features of Kel-Tec KSG
Kel-Tec KSG weapons are created with manual reloading of ammunition. A longitudinally sliding fore-end is used for reloading. The type of recharge is pump action - "pump action". To reload the shotgun, the forend is moved back and immediately forward. The forend is made of high-strength plastic and is connected to the bolt by means of two metal rods. The barrel bore is locked with a swinging combat cylinder. The combat larva is attached to the top of the bolt. It engages the bolt with the barrel shank.
The cartridges are fed from 2 tubular magazines, which are located parallel to each other under the barrel of the gun. When firing, cartridges are supplied from only one tubular magazine, the supply of ammunition from the second magazine is done manually using a lever switch. The switch is located in the lower side of the barrel box, just beyond the pistol grip. The lever-type switch itself has 3 positions. Both extreme positions are used to select magazines for supplying ammunition, in the middle position, both magazines are locked - this will allow the owner to discharge the chamber if ammunition remains in the tube magazines, as well as quickly change the type of ammunition in the barrel. Ammunition is supplied to both magazines through the existing window in the lower part of the barrel box, located slightly further than the pistol grip. The ammunition is fed into the window by one cartridge. After firing a shot through this window, the used cartridges are ejected from the cartridges downward from the weapon. These capabilities, together with a push-button fuse, create a true "double-sided" shotgun. The weapon is equipped with a modern Picatinny rail at the top of the barrel. Various variations of sights can be installed on it. Additionally, the forend is also provided with a "Picatinny rail". This will allow you to provide the gun with an additional handle or put a laser sight, or use the gun in the dark, equipped with a tactical flashlight.
