The US military was presented with a project for the production of an innovative weapon - the XM-25 25 mm grenade launcher. The project has recently been approved, its cost according to preliminary estimates is 65.8 million. This weapon is semi-automatic and is equipped with a laser rangefinder. He has already been given the nickname "The Punisher". The grenade launcher shells will explode at a strictly specified point. This data was obtained in the course of a press release from Alliant Techsystems (ATK), which received the contract for a period of 30 months.
The XM-25's peculiarity is the ability to hit a target that is behind an obstacle - a structure or other cover. Bruce DeWitt, general manager of the ATK manufacturer, noted that a target from this weapon can be hit in less than five seconds by any soldier with basic rifle skills.
The charge for this weapon, which weighs about five and a half kilograms, is 25 mm ammunition. Aimed shooting from the "Punisher" can be carried out at a distance of half a kilometer, and the shelling of the enemy from a distance of seven hundred meters.
Tests of the XM-25 have already been conducted by the US armed forces since November 2010, in Afghanistan. At the moment, only five copies of this unique grenade launcher have seen the light. Large-scale production of grenade launchers, most likely, will not begin until 2013.
