In October this year, the head of the military department A. Serdyukov visited VNIIEF (nuclear federal center). One of the directions of VNIIEF's work is the design and creation of highly parallel high-performance supercomputers for use in the armed forces of the Russian Federation. These computers have high reliability of functioning with constant round-the-clock operation, are provided with warranty support and modernization for high-quality maintenance of computer equipment at the advanced level of development of electronic computing technology, and software updates.

Work in this direction has already yielded positive results - a full-fledged computing center has been created at the enterprise of the Ministry of Defense. The center was created using the latest technologies in the field of computers and software of its own design and programs optimized for operation on high-speed computers.

KS-EVM APK-1.

According to the presidential program "Development of Supercomputers and Grid Technologies" VNIIEF has developed a high-end teraflop hardware software complex.

"KS-EVM 1" is designed as a compact universal multiprocessor "KS-EVM". It is equipped with software and applications manufactured by RFNC-VNIIEF.

"KS-EVM 1" is intended for solving problems of three-dimensional modeling and simulation. This will reduce the time for engineering and design calculations in the design and creation of the latest projects of technical solutions at enterprises, factories, design bureaus and research institutes in the high-tech sphere and will increase the accuracy of these calculations.

Domestic developers managed to create a unique computer. Practically, APK-1 is a designer's dream for calculating modern projects.

The small dimensions of the KS-computer 1 make it possible to install it in any workplace, just ordinary supercomputers are similar in overall dimensions to a small separate room. KS-computer 1 does not require additional systems, for example, a cooling system, or special technical personnel. We can say that this is practically a slightly enlarged personal computer. The advantages of KS-Computer 1 include reduced noise characteristics and low power consumption. So APK-1 consumes about 1.8 kW, which is much less than the consumption of foreign analogues and previous supercomputers.

The software package makes it possible to develop, configure and execute applications executed in such machine languages as "Fortran-90", "C ++" and "C", which use the OMP and MPI tools. Implemented the ability to use software solutions in parallel, sequential one and many user mode.

"KS-computer 1" is provided with a cluster MIMD-architecture with assigned memory, a high-performance system of interprocessor data exchange, supports the x86 architecture.

The basis of the supercomputer "KS-Computer 1" is multi-core microprocessors from AMD united into a high-speed network by means of InfiniBand QDR technology.

The system between processor data exchanges with direct switching is based on the proprietary version of the software developed by RFNC-VNIIEF.

The system uses Gigabit Ethernet technology for internal and network use.

A similar foreign-made computer solution costs at least twice as much.

In 2010, 1.1 billion rubles were allocated for this program. In 2011 - 1.5 billion rubles.

Last year, 15 of these supercomputers were transferred to 11 domestic design bureaus, enterprises and plants participating in the "Development of supercomputers and GRID technologies" program. 50 percent of the cost of the cars was paid by the state.

RFNC-VNIIEF also assembled 6 KS-EVM APK-1 for sale on a commercial basis.

The program is designed for the production of 52 "KS-EVM". Most of which will be sold commercially.

The estimated interest of domestic enterprises is about 100 teraflops.

It is planned to release this year "KS-computer" with a capacity of 3 teraflops, a prototype has been created.

A 1 Pflops supercomputer was also built, which is likely to be announced next March. A number of enterprises have already been remotely connected to this computer, and remote tests are being carried out.

Future plans are to create a megacomputer with a performance of up to 15 Pflops by 2015.
