The border between the DPRK and South Korea is becoming more and more dangerous every day.
It was recently revealed that on July 14, the South Korean armed forces placed two patrol robots worth $ 330,000 each on alert on the border with North Korea.
The robots Samsung Techwin SGR-1 are equipped with Daewoo K3 machine guns with active stabilizers "for sniper shooting".
It is quite officially reported that the SGR-1 robots have successfully passed their baptism of fire in Iraq, carrying out automated protection of the bases of South Korean units. How many Iraqis they killed is not reported.
Next, I will quote the open prospectus:
At the bottom of the SGR-1 there is a video surveillance module. It is a turntable with cameras fixed on it from both sides, installed in street covers. Under normal conditions, observation is carried out by a CCD - day / night camera of high resolution (560/700 TVL) and high sensitivity (up to 0.0001 Lux). In conditions of fog, dust storm or gas attack, observation is carried out by a thermal imaging camera with an uncooled detector and a viewing angle of up to 20 °. Such a video system provides object detection at a distance of up to 4 km during the day and up to 2 km at night.
The tracking module is located at the top of the device. This is a turntable with an integrated video tracking system attached to it, placed in a street casing. It consists of a high-resolution (450/470 TVL) high-sensitivity (up to 0.0001 Lux) day / night CCD camera, an infrared diode illuminator (860 nm) with a power of 1.5 W and a video detector in the laser range. Such a video system provides automatic tracking of an object at a distance of up to 2 km during the day and up to 1 km at night.
On the upper turntable, coaxially with the video system, there is a bracket for attaching special devices that provide actual protection of the object (automatic weapons of 5.45 mm or 7.62 mm caliber.)
In the future, it is possible to create entire divisions of combat robots to patrol the 38th parallel.
Meanwhile, the North Koreans in Panmunjom (on the military demarcation zone 38 parallel) have changed their usual caps for combat helmets for safety and readiness for battle.
