At any exhibition there are not only new exhibits, but also samples already known to the public. At the recent exhibition "Innovation Day of the Southern Military District", the industry and the Ministry of Internal Affairs presented the promising Ural-VV armored vehicle. This machine has long been known to specialists and the public, but has not yet become a regular guest at various exhibition events.
The Ural-VV armored car was developed by the Miass automobile plant Ural within the framework of the Motovoz-2 program. The goal of the project was to create a promising protected vehicle with a 6x6 wheel arrangement. The Ural-VV vehicle was developed by order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and was intended for operation in the units of the internal troops. This particular feature of the project was included in its name in the form of letters "BB".
A promising armored car was first shown in 2013 at the Russia Arms Expo in Nizhny Tagil. In the future, the Ural-VV armored cars were repeatedly demonstrated at other events. The list of exhibitions, in the exposition of which was attended by "Ural-VV", recently entered the "Day of innovations of the Southern Military District". Thus, thanks to regular participation in exhibitions, a promising armored car for the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has become quite widely known among specialists and the public.
The Ural-4320 truck chassis was chosen as the base for the Ural-VV armored car. This machine went into mass production a long time ago and is well mastered by the operators, thanks to which it can be a very convenient and successful base for military and special equipment. The four-wheel drive three-axle chassis is equipped with a YaMZ-536 diesel engine with a capacity of 270 hp. Such a power plant, combined with a transmission that transmits torque to all three axles, allows a machine weighing up to 18.3 tons to reach speeds of up to 90 km / h.
The Ural-VV vehicle is equipped with an armored hull, divided into an engine compartment and a manned compartment. The crew and the troopers are located in a common volume, which facilitates embarkation and disembarkation. The armored hull of the vehicle is designed taking into account the need to protect the crew and units from small arms and shrapnel. The habitable compartment has a class 5 protection according to domestic standards. Such armor can withstand fire from small arms up to 7, 62 mm.
The engine, gearbox and a number of other machine units also received their own protection. Thus, the engine is located inside a casing corresponding to protection class 3. A decorative plastic hood-cowl is installed on top of the engine armor.
A promising armored car can take on board up to 3 tons of cargo. Its main task is to transport personnel. In front of the habitable volume, the driver's and commander's seats are located. Behind them, along the sides, 15 more landing seats are installed. Thus, in the existing configuration "Ural-VV" transports up to 16 fighters with weapons, not counting the driver.
For landing, the commander and the driver have their own side doors. At the disposal of the landing party there is a door on the starboard side and two aft doors. For greater convenience of disembarking from a relatively tall car, there are steps under the side doors. The stern doors, in turn, are equipped with a folding ladder. In the stowed position, it rises with a pneumatic cylinder and is fixed in this position. Before landing, it should be lowered. In addition, several hatches are provided in the roof of the troop compartment.
According to reports, back in 2013, the Ministry of Internal Affairs ordered a batch of 10 armored vehicles of a new type to the Ural automobile plant. This order was completed several years ago. The vehicles of the first batch were transferred to some units of the Interior Ministry troops. Currently, all ten armored cars are being tested in the North Caucasus. There is information about the participation of such equipment in clashes with the enemy. The militants tried unsuccessfully to attack one of the vehicles using small arms. The armored car received some damage, but the crew was not injured: it was protected by armor and glass.
Recently it became known that the Ministry of Internal Affairs is currently working on the acceptance of the Ural-VV vehicle for supply. After that, a full-fledged serial construction of armored cars will probably start. In addition, information appeared according to which the Ural plant offered its new development to the Ministry of Defense. The army version of the armored car is called "Warrior". Its further fate has not yet been determined: the potential customer has not yet made the final choice. The first export contract is expected to appear in the future.
One of the ten existing armored vehicles "Ural-VV" was presented at the exhibition "Day of Innovations YuVO". We present a photo review of the shown armored vehicle.
