Many units need protected vehicles, but it is far from always advisable to purchase full-fledged armored vehicles. In some cases, it makes sense to build protected equipment on the basis of ready-made serial trucks, which allows you to ensure an acceptable balance of various characteristics and cost. The Federal 42591 armored car is a good example of this approach. Such a machine was shown to the general public during the recent exhibition "Innovation Day of the Southern Military District."

The armored car "Federal-42591" was first presented at the exhibition "Interpolitex" in 2011. Since then, this machine has managed to enter mass production and begin service in various divisions. In addition, this type of technique often appears in the expositions of various exhibitions. The project of an armored car based on a serial truck was developed by the Institute of Special Equipment. The main customer of such vehicles is the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which purchases armored cars for the internal troops.

The basis of the armored vehicle intended for the transportation of personnel and cargo is the Ural-4320 truck. During the conversion into an armored car, the base car receives a set of reservations and a number of new units, thanks to which it can perform the assigned tasks in conditions of a high risk of ambushes and shelling. This vehicle is not intended for action on the front line, but is capable of protecting the crew and passengers from possible fire from small arms.

The Institute of Special Equipment has created a set of armored units, which are proposed to be mounted on the base vehicle. These products provide protection for the power plant, crew and troops from various threats. According to available data, the driver and accompanying person in the cab are protected according to the 5th class of domestic standards. The roof of the cab corresponds to the 3rd class. The armored module for the transport of troops corresponds to the 6th class.

Additional armor is installed around the engine (in particular, a characteristic radiator grille is used) and the crew's workplaces. Instead of the body of the base vehicle, a special van module with seats for the landing is used. The airborne module is similar in size and shape to the standard KUNG of domestic production. Also provided are fastenings and frame elements for the awning. All this contributes to camouflage: armored and unprotected Urals have a minimum of noticeable differences.

During the upgrade, the base truck retains the two-seater cab. The landing party in the amount of 16 people is transported in a large armored van. In such a troop compartment, several shops are located, on which soldiers with weapons are located. For embarkation and disembarkation, it is proposed to use one door on the starboard side and two aft doors. Due to the high height of the car, for ease of entry and exit, there is a step bracket under the side door. Before dismounting through the stern, you should not only open the doors, but also lower the tailgate of the body. For added convenience, there are footrests on board. In addition, a large wide bracket is provided on the upper edge of the bead.

If necessary, the crew can use personal weapons. For firing from it, the car has several embrasures. So, in the glass of the cockpit, two similar devices are provided: in the windshield and on the commander's door. In some modifications of the Federal armored car, embrasures of the troop compartment are provided. Shown at the exhibition "Innovation Day of the Southern Military District" the sample of the machine was equipped only with the commander's embrasures.

To date, armored vehicles "Federal-42591" are serially built and handed over to the customer. The main buyer and operator of these vehicles are the Interior Ministry troops. The main task of this technique is to transport personnel in areas with an increased risk of ambushes and other attacks.

The Institute of Special Equipment continues to work on the project, which has already resulted in the emergence of several new vehicles that differ from the base armored car in a number of interesting features. Nevertheless, the existing "Feds" have already been built in a fairly large number and are actively used in the units of the internal troops.

One of the units of this structure in the Ministry of Internal Affairs recently provided its vehicle of the "Federal-42591" type for the exhibition "Innovation Day of the Southern Military District." We present a small photo review of this armored car.
