The Russian Ministry of Defense and the French company Sagem Defense Securite (SAFRAN group of companies) will discuss possible purchases of the SIGMA 30 fire control system (FCS) for the modernization of Russian artillery and multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) during the Technologies in Mechanical Engineering 2010 exhibition in Moscow. said a spokesman for the French company.

At the Eurosatori 2010 arms exhibition held in June in France, Russian First Deputy Defense Minister Vladimir Popovkin invited Sagem representatives to negotiations in Moscow and declared the Russian defense ministry's interest in acquiring SIGMA 30 navigation and guidance systems, primarily for the modernization of MLRS " Tornado "and" Grad ".

“We are ready to offer Russia the SIGMA 30 system for modernizing Russian artillery and multiple launch rocket systems. Equipping this system with Russian military equipment increases its efficiency several times,”the source said.

He recalled that Sagem now supplies these systems for almost the entire range of Russian export weapons products, including SIGMA 95 for the Sukhoi company. In addition, the French company is modernizing Indian equipment purchased earlier in Russia, including multiple launch rocket systems. At the same time, all French artillery and analogues of the Russian "Smerchi" and "Grad" have already been re-equipped with the new SIGMA 30 system. The MLRS of Germany and Italy are equipped with the same system. The combat vehicles of Norway and Sweden are now being modernized, said a representative of the French company.

“The need for the latest navigation and guidance systems is dictated by the fact that today the firing range of the modernized Grad-type MLRS has increased from 40 to 50-60 km. Accordingly, the fire control system should be modernized, namely, the accuracy and speed of aiming at the target should be increased,”said a Sagem spokesman, RIA Novosti reports.

According to him, the SIGMA 30 system, developed in 1995 on gyro-laser technologies for high-precision shooting, has a weight of 20 kg versus 50 on the old system, the aiming time is 5 minutes versus 15, the accuracy of shooting with a coefficient of 0.9 versus 2, the operating time for failure 20 thousand hours versus 5 thousand

The Forum "Technologies in Mechanical Engineering-2010" (TVM-2010) will be held in Zhukovsky near Moscow from June 30 to July 4.
