During the active phase of the Ukrainian-American exercises Sea Breeze-2013, with the invitation of representatives of the fleets of other countries, the participants of the maneuvers practically worked out all the planned elements with close interaction of the sea, land and aviation components, as well as units, forces and means of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. State Border Service and State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
According to the head of the joint press center for training, Captain 3rd Rank Sergei Bogdanov, during the active phase, the tactical groups of the ships completed a number of tasks in accordance with the training topics.
In particular, exercises were conducted on the universal defense of ships, repelling attacks from speed boats and aircraft, assisting a damaged ship, searching in the area and rescuing a ship and a person, controlling navigation in a certain area, interrogating, intercepting, inspecting a ship under normal conditions, patrolling in a certain area of the embargo, the landing of amphibious assault and ensuring the actions of forces on the shore, etc. Also, the crews of the ships participating in the maneuvers conducted exercises to coerce a suspicious vessel, tried to illegally deliver weapons to the crisis area, before stopping, disembarking an inspection team on it with air support from the ship's Ka-27 helicopter.
In turn, the participants of the coastal component landed an airborne assault in the area of the natural disaster where small groups of illegal armed formations were found, reconnaissance, search and destruction of these groups to support the operation to evacuate non-combatants, blocking the enemy's escape routes by the forces of an airborne assault company, evacuating victims and refugees. In addition, the servicemen took part in the elimination of the consequences of a conditional emergency - a fire in the port of Ochakov in cooperation with units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
The actions of the multinational forces at sea and on land were actively supported by the military aviators of the Ukraine, the USA and the FRG. They provided exercises on air defense of ships with L-39 aircraft, exposure of the surface situation, evacuation of victims from the ship and from the area of a natural disaster, delivery of units to the site of the operation to identify and neutralize illegal armed groups.
