On May 9, at the Museum of Russian Military History, the guests were solemnly shown the SU-85 self-propelled artillery unit, restored by the museum staff, Russian restorers and assistants.

The uniqueness of this self-propelled gun lies in the fact that it is one. Currently, it is the only copy of the SU-85 in the world, located:

a) in the original configuration;

b) on the go.

In general, in all the museums of the world there are no more than a dozen of such cars. But, we emphasize once again: museum exhibits.

In Russia, there is a SU-85, for example, in the Central Museum of the Armed Forces, but … It is rather a corps in the state of "the patient is more likely dead than alive." The status "not restored" says more than that.

So this instance is one of a kind.

The life of the car was long and interesting. The self-propelled gun fought, and the shells spared her. "Drying" did not burn, was not seriously damaged. And after the war it was disarmed and sent to the national economy.

Specifically - on the railroad, where she worked first at the Ministry of Railways, and then at JSC "Russian Railways" to this day. As a heavy tractor.

With great pleasure we will announce the name of the savior.

It was through the efforts of Alexander Gennadievich Zaitsev (pictured) that the car was transferred from Russian Railways to the Museum of Russian Military History, and then a team of museum restorers under the leadership of General Director Dmitry Viktorovich Persheev brought the car into the form that we are pleased to see.

Congratulations to the museum staff and all domestic fans of military history!

And then the news fell: the self-propelled guns are now really TWO!

The well-known tank historian and specialist Yuri Pasholok in his blog ("The second SU-85 in one Victory Day") said that the second SU-85 took part in the parade in the city of Noginsk, Moscow region, restored by enthusiasts to working condition.
