After the American authorities began to talk too often about the need to deploy systems in Eastern Europe, the Russian authorities decided to show that Russia has its own counterarguments on this score. During his presidency, Dmitry Medvedev announced that the Russian Federation could withdraw from the START treaty, as well as deploy Iskander complexes in the westernmost Russian region, which caused a storm of indignation in the West. The Baltic states showed a particularly violent reaction, announcing that Russia is reiterating its possible aggression.

But in this case, one should not listen to the moaning of the Balts, because Russia is only going to show that for every American initiative it has its own alternative that can again lead to strategic parity.

In addition to the fact that today we are talking about the deployment of an American missile defense system in Poland and Romania, there is information that NATO warships equipped with anti-missile systems can begin combat duty in northern waters in a few years. In the Norwegian fjords, such vessels will already be guaranteed to settle, but it may even come to the point that Finland, where the popularity of the extreme right is growing, can give its approval for the deployment of ships with missile defense systems. These political forces in Suomi are increasingly declaring that Russia should transfer certain areas of the Republic of Karelia to Finland, which were transferred to Moscow as a result of the Soviet-Finnish war. If this rhetoric of the Finnish authorities continues, then Moscow will have to show its closest neighbors that Karelia belongs entirely to Russia, and the Russian authorities are not going to make any territorial gifts in relation to Helsinki.

Today, the western borders of Russia, including the Russian-Finnish air border, are guarded by the 334th Red Banner Radio Technical Regiment, which is ready to withstand any threat from the West. It was this military formation that stopped the advance through the territory of the Soviet Union of a foreign Boeing, which was planted in Karelia, back in 1978. The Su-15 interceptor forced a South Korean liner, which had been in Soviet airspace for a long time, to land on the ice of Lake Korpiyarvi after being fired upon by missiles. The incident killed two Boeing passengers. Until now, that tragedy is seriously discussed, because, as it turned out, the plane was purely passenger and did not perform reconnaissance functions, but the order to destroy it was still given even after the pilots turned the plane to the Finnish border, based on the warnings of the Soviet pilot Su -15.
