Since 2012, the VKO divisions will receive a new "Sky-M" radar system.

The main purpose of this radar is to track objects at high and medium altitudes.

From an official statement by Colonel Vladimir Drik, who is a representative of the information department and the press service of the RF Ministry of Defense, the military department has planned to provide the armed forces with dozens of Sky-M radars.

"Sky-M" refers to interspecies radar stations of high and medium altitudes. The radar is capable of analyzing information at operating altitudes about small-sized hypersonic and aerodynamic targets in adverse weather conditions, transmitting the collected information to the combat missile defense units - medium and short-range anti-aircraft missile units.

October 2011 was a significant year for the Sky-M radar - the tests of the multifunctional station were completed.

The domestic armed forces will receive a reliable means for high-quality control of space and air space with an effective range for detecting hypersonic, ballistic and aerodynamic objects and vehicles at a distance of up to 1.8 thousand kilometers and at an altitude of up to 1.2 thousand kilometers.

These data were officially reported by the press service of the enterprise "FSPC NNIIRT".

The latest development of domestic designers is provided with good mobility and can replace, if necessary, any of the existing radio engineering units of this class. No matter how trite it sounds, the "Sky-M" radar complex has no analogues.

The enterprise "FSPC NNIIRT" today is one of the leaders in the design and creation of radar equipment and complexes. The enterprise has on its account more than 35 different types of radar stations and complexes. The volume of all stations and complexes is currently 17,000 units, this equipment is the radio technical support for the air defense of our Fatherland.

Out of this volume, 3,000 units of radar equipment were supplied abroad, to the armed forces of about 50 states.
