The Ural-63095 armored vehicle is designed to carry out tasks of transporting people (personnel), cargo for various purposes and towing trailed solutions on various types of roads and off-road. The military purpose of the Ural-63095 armored vehicles is the transportation of personnel or cargo to the zone of military conflict, as well as taking direct part in them.
When creating the machine, the designers used the most modern solutions in design, equipment, units and armored protection. According to the designers, the Ural-63095 will withstand an explosion of 8 kilograms of TNT.
The new Ural-63095 vehicle became one of fifty samples of special equipment demonstrated at the end of January at a closed-type exhibition near Moscow. In addition, the designers of the Ural automobile plant presented seven more promising vehicles with all-wheel drive for the second purpose. The exhibition was held under the program to improve the state defense order. This vehicle is proposed to provide support to the Interior Ministry units, but the leadership of the internal troops is in no hurry to draw any conclusion regarding the Typhoon project. Earlier, in mid-2011, the head of the Russian military department, at a prospective display of samples of domestic military equipment, made a statement that the Typhoon based on the Urals would be acquired in the near future for the needs of the Russian army.
To date, the armored vehicle is undergoing a series of tests. According to the developers of the Ural automobile plant of the Russian GAZ Group, the new vehicle surpasses modern armored personnel carriers in terms of reliability, and it can withstand the detonation of various explosive devices, including anti-tank mines. In terms of its main characteristics, the Typhoon based on the Urals is not inferior to its foreign counterparts. As the chief designer of the project commented on the capabilities of the vehicle, "the new armor installed on the Typhoon will be able to protect the transported people and various cargo from the action of small arms and explosive devices up to anti-tank mines." Today, one can come across the opinion that the statements are not accurate enough, because with the naked eye you can see a gas tank on a car, hitting which from small arms or shrapnel will negate the possibility of booking a car.
The four-wheel drive three-axle multifunctional frame vehicle Typhoon based on the Ural-63095 has a 3-seater cabin and a module for twelve people. In some sources you can find that the functional module of the machine is designed for 16 people, perhaps we are talking about a modification of the "Ural-63095". The formula for the wheels of an armored cargo-passenger vehicle 6X6. The armored cabin is provided with a folding berth, a functional armored module, which provides reliable protection of transported people and goods. The chassis of the Typhoon armored vehicle has an independent hydropneumatic suspension. Installed engine - 450 - strong, with increased power. The engine was manufactured by the Yaroslavl Motor Plant, which is also part of the Russian GAZ Group. YaMZ-E5367 has an automatic 6-speed gearbox, a mechanical 2-speed transfer case, liquid cooling and direct fuel injection. The turbocharged diesel engine is made in accordance with modern environmental standards Euro-4. Steering is provided by a 2-way hydraulic booster.
The new vehicle of the Typhoon project has increased cross-country characteristics, which consist in overcoming a 60-degree rise, a 2-meter ford and a 60-centimeter vertical obstacle. Ural-63095 has 2 fuel tanks with a total capacity of 600 liters. According to reports, the thickness of the armored glass is 130 mm, the weight of such glass is 300 kilograms per square meter, it is capable of withstanding an armor-piercing bullet fired from KPVT from 200 meters.
Various weapons can be installed on the armored vehicle, for example, a machine gun (on the roof of the car), which will be controlled remotely from the armored module. Of the equipment, we note the satellite navigation system and night vision devices. A liquid crystal monitor is installed in the armored module, on which various information is displayed and from which it is possible to monitor and regulate the internal systems of the armored vehicle.
The Typhoon family consists of three types of armored vehicles, two bonded Urals and one cabover KamAZ. In terms of armor protection characteristics, they are not inferior to their foreign counterparts "MRAP". The Typhoon vehicles are a completely new development, which is not an ordinary modernization of Russian trucks. Typhoon is a project of the GAZ Group; it is being dealt with by the Ural and KamAZ car plants and a number of other factories and enterprises. The approximate deadline for completion of work and testing is 2014. Development is carried out in several directions at once:
- armored vehicles with wheel arrangement 6x6, 4x4, 2x2;
- bonnet and bonnet version;
- frame and case.
