Assault rifles (machine guns) of the Pindad SS2 family were developed in Indonesia by the state-owned company PT Pindad. The SS2 rifles are based on the SS1 rifles, which are licensed copies of the Belgian FN FNC rifle, produced in Indonesia.

Assault rifles (assault rifles) of the Pindad SS2 family use gas-operated automation with a long stroke of the gas piston located above the barrel. The barrel is locked by a rotary bolt with 7 lugs, behind the barrel shank.

The receiver is assembled from two halves (upper and lower) made of aluminum alloy and connected by two transverse pins. The cocking handle is located on the right and when firing moves together with the bolt group.

On the left of the receiver there is a slide delay button and a safety-translator of fire modes, which provides firing with single shots and continuous fire. Cartridges are fed from detachable box magazines from the FN FNC rifle (compatible with the M16 rifle). On the upper surface of the receiver there is a Picatinny rail, on which a removable handle for carrying weapons with a built-in diopter sight is installed. In the "sniper" version of the SS2-V4, the rifle is equipped with a telescopic sight and has a weighted barrel. All variants of the Pindad SS2 rifles are equipped with a folding skeletal buttstock, the SS2-V1 and SS2-V2 variants can be equipped with a 40mm grenade launcher.
