Russian intelligence is seriously weakened today. The current oligarchic government does not want to know, to obtain information about military programs, political strategy and military equipment - it is primarily interested in business issues. This was stated by the President of the Academy of Geopolitical Problems of the Russian Federation, Colonel-General Leonid Ivashov in an interview with the "New Region" correspondent.

The people's representatives, the expert notes, in their pre-election speeches only talk about the interests of Russia, including defense and security, but in reality they are doing the opposite - they disarm the army, weaken the mining structures, intelligence.

“On the example of our Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) I see … Promising directions are being disbanded and at the same time there is a creation of opponents for themselves,” Ivashov notes.

Thus, by signing an agreement with Israel on military cooperation, Russia aroused the suspicion of the Arab countries, Iran. The sanctions against Iran, in his opinion, also embitter the Islamic world against our country, then the anti-drug operation in Afghanistan jointly with the United States, carried out without the consent of the government of this country. Ivashov is also not quite clear about Russia's policy towards Japan.

“So Medvedev flew to the Kuril Islands to tease Japan? First, the troops were disbanded there, and then we begin to tease the Japanese …”, - the general is surprised.

It cannot be said that the Russian government provides security from the West. The elite, according to the expert, “is more concerned with the social, political protest that is brewing in Russia” - the rulers fear a popular explosion or even a change of power in the elections, and, as a result, the loss of their capital.

“Therefore, today they are urgently fleeing to NATO. They understand that NATO will force them to share, but at least they will not take everything away from them, they will not put them in jail. Intelligence is oriented only in this direction - they will not be accepted into NATO, they will hide the former president, prime minister, ministers or not, they will give political asylum, like Akhmed Zakayev, or not,”Ivashov said.

The general, referring to Mikhail Poltoranin's book "Power in TNT Equivalent", cites data that the Russians no longer own 80% of the country's resources. To say that this property is in the hands of Russia, in his opinion, is impossible, because, fleeing, its "owners" "will try to steal everything that is possible with them."

In addition, Ivashov recalls the actions of Boris Yeltsin in 1993, when the president, in order to maintain power, asked Clinton for support and concluded an agreement with the United States on weapons-grade uranium.

“Clinton says - I have to give something substantial to the Congress, so that he would remain silent, at least. What to give? Give me weapons-grade uranium, I will say that Russia is becoming a nuclear-free country. Yeltsin agrees, and we are deprived of 500 tons of nuclear potential, created by the country over the years."

The intelligence services and financial circles of the West, sums up Ivashov, are aware of where the government officials hide their savings. And the threat of exposure always hangs over the oligarchs if one of them "turns the wrong way." “Either sell Russia further, or they will take everything away from you” - such a choice, according to the expert, is sometimes presented to the Russian elite by the Western special services.
