It looks like paratroopers will start jumping without a parachute in the near future.

Employees of the Faculty of Aeromechanics and Flying Engineering of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology have begun to create an individual aircraft that will allow paratroopers to descend to the ground faster and more invisibly to the enemy.

As one of the developers, a 5th-year student Roman Anisovich, told MK, the know-how is more reminiscent of a man's suit - a bat, with membranes between arms and body and equipped with a tail. The project is based on the idea of a Western invention - a wing suit. Lightweight, weighing no more than an ordinary jacket, it is used in parachuting for faster descent of athletes (however, they land by opening a normal parachute).

In the project of the Russian developers, there will be no reserve parachute. The “Batman” paratrooper will land on his feet, having previously reduced his flight speed. This will be achieved by a special design of the suit. As conceived by the designers, after separation from the aircraft, the parachutist will have to spread his arms and legs to the sides, straightening his membranes, and start planning. Firstly, a paratrooper descending without a dome will be very difficult to notice from the ground, and secondly, if necessary, he can fold his arms-wings and give the body maximum acceleration, literally falling like a stone. However, when approaching the ground, pulling up special slings, the soldier will be able to instantly reduce the speed to the minimum and calmly land on his feet. It is possible that, unlike a soft wingsuit, experts will offer a rigid model of a flying suit. It will resemble a carapace with wings extending in the area of the shoulder blades. Now the developers are calculating the optimal parameters of the suit.

The paratroopers already know about the scientists' idea. The innovation, which is still at the stage of computer modeling, is eagerly awaited at the Ryazan Higher Airborne Command School.
