To solve various combat missions, the shooters of the armed forces or police units require different types of weapons. In particular, to hit protected targets, including at considerable distances, the so-called. anti-material rifles are large-caliber weapons with appropriate characteristics. Over the past few years, the South African company Truvelo Armory Manufacturers has presented its view on the development of such weapons. To date, she has developed and offered customers several models of large-caliber sniper rifles with different characteristics, including very unusual ones. The line of such weapons is collectively called Counter Measure Sniper or CMS. Of several CMS rifles, only one in its appearance resembles common counterparts from other manufacturers. This product is called Truvelo CMS 12.7x99 mm.
The main idea of the entire line of CMS rifles is to increase the caliber of the weapon, which leads to increased firepower and combat effectiveness. Due to the use of bullets of a larger caliber, the rifle is able to shoot further and have a more powerful effect on the target. At the same time, measures are being taken to maximize the accuracy of fire and improve other combat or operational characteristics. "Traditional" for the present time, the appearance of an anti-material rifle implies the use of cartridges of 12, 7 mm. The CMS 12.7x99 mm rifle is designed for high-precision shooting at long distances. It is proposed to use it both against manpower and to destroy lightly armored equipment, fuel tanks, ammunition depots and other material, the destruction of which could cause serious damage to the enemy. To provide the firepower required to carry out such combat missions, the rifle uses a NATO-standard large-caliber cartridge. In addition, the design of the weapon uses some ideas and principles that are widely used in modern high-precision small arms.
From the point of view of the general layout and principles of operation, the Truvelo CMS 12.7x99 mm rifle differs little from other modern systems in its class. The main unit of the weapon is the system formed by the barrel and receiver. This device is fixed to the stock, and the barrel is connected only to the receiver and is hung over a small forend and a bipod support. This weapon design should provide higher accuracy and accuracy. An adjustable butt is attached to the rear of the stock, and a bipod can be installed on the front mounts. The rifle also has mounts for scopes of various models.
Rifle without scope
The product CMS 12.7x99 mm receives a barrel of 12.7 mm with a length of 710 mm (56 calibers). In the basic configuration of the rifle, the barrel is equipped with a four-chamber muzzle brake, which diverts gases to the side and back. The breech of the barrel is connected to the receiver, which has a complex shape. The oblong unit, containing all the main parts, has a polygonal front and rear section, and the space between them is made in the form of a cylinder. At the same time, in the right surface of the receiver there is a large window for ejection of casings. A standard Picatinny rail is placed on the upper surface of the part for mounting scopes of various models. In the front lower part of the receiver there is a magazine receiving window. In the rear, in turn, are the details of the firing mechanism.

In order to avoid unnecessary hesitation when fired, the Truvelo CMS 12.7x99 mm rifle has no automatic mechanism and can only be reloaded manually using a sliding bolt. The rifle bolt is a fairly simple cylindrical part with a spiral groove on the outer surface, inside which a spring-loaded drummer and devices for extracting a spent cartridge case are placed. The use of valleys on the gate allowed the designers to reduce its weight, as well as to reduce the negative impact of contamination by collecting the contaminant inside the groove. The operation of the bolt is controlled manually using a handle on the shank of the bolt, brought out through the rear wall of the receiver. The bolt handle is on the right side of the weapon.
Locking the barrel before firing is done by turning the bolt by four lugs. The forward feed of the bolt handle introduces the bolt stops into the corresponding grooves of the receiver, after which the rotation fixes the bolt in the locked position. The rifle's ammunition system uses detachable box magazines with a capacity of five rounds. There is a shaft for installing the store in the box. The magazine is secured by a latch, which is controlled by a lever inside the trigger bracket. The magazines have a standard design with a metal rectangular body and cartridge feed by means of a spring and a pusher.

All main units of the Truvelo CMS 12.7x99 mm rifle are mounted on a plastic stock with metal inserts. The stock is of medium length, extending from the breech to the butt neck. The side of the weapon is covered with polygonal flaps, which, in particular, cover the magazine's receiving shaft. A metal beam emerges from the front assembly of the box, designed for attaching various devices. Its front mount accepts any compatible bipod model, while the side surfaces have standard rails. With their help, the rifle can be retrofitted with any necessary devices. In the back of the box, behind the magazine shaft, there is a recess for the trigger bracket. Behind it are the pistol grip and the folding stock hinge.
In the basic configuration, the rifle is equipped with a folding stock with the ability to change the basic geometric parameters. There are mechanisms for adjusting the length of the butt, as well as for adjusting the height of the cheek piece. On the lower surface of the main frame of the butt there is a short Picatinny rail for installing additional support. To transport the weapon, the shooter must press the stopper button, and then turn the butt to the right and forward. To transfer the stock to the transport position, you need to lift the bolt handle up.
Buttstock in unfolded and folded position
The anti-material rifle Truvelo CMS 12.7x99 mm does not have standard sighting devices. The shooter is invited to independently choose a telescopic sight that suits him and mount it on the weapon using standard mounting devices. It is allowed to use both day and night sights of various types. The possibility of installing a mechanical sight is not provided, because the muzzle of the barrel does not have any attachments for additional equipment.
The total length of the rifle in the firing position, depending on the parameters of the butt, can reach 1, 45 m. With the stock folded, the length of the weapon is reduced to 1, 19 m. To obtain the best fire characteristics, the manufacturer recommends using cartridges of its own production, filled by hand. However, nothing prevents the shooter from choosing ammunition from a different production.
The high-precision anti-material rifle Truvelo CMS 12.7x99 mm is supplied in a fairly modest configuration, which, however, allows you to select additional equipment in accordance with existing requirements and wishes. The anti-material rifle CMS 12.7x99 mm is the "youngest" model in the line of large-caliber weapons from Truvelo Armory Manufacturers. In addition to her, the arms enterprise from the Republic of South Africa produces several other products of a similar purpose, differing in increased caliber and greater firepower. More "older" models of the series have a caliber from 14, 5 to 20 mm.
