In the world of hand-held firearms, it is far from always possible to understand where the legs grow from for this or that type of weapon. The merger of companies, the separation from large firms of separate representative offices with already different names and their joint work with other companies very well obscures the tracks. What is most interesting is that even the name of the weapon does not always mean that it belongs to one or another arms company. A striking example of this can be the SIG 50 large-caliber sniper rifle, which appeared relatively recently, but has already established itself as a weapon that is accurate enough for its class and reliable. It is with this sample that we will try to get acquainted in this article, and at the same time we will estimate how Swiss this weapon is.

This rifle appeared due to the rather high demand for large-caliber sniper rifles, which has been stable since the late 80s of the last century. However, during this time, the demand for weapons, although it remained unchanged, but the requirements for such rifles have increased significantly. If earlier the CWS in its accuracy could be close to the PTR, and far from the best, now a large-caliber sniper rifle is already beginning to become a high-precision weapon capable of hitting the enemy at considerable distances, of course, if a sniper with appropriate training is attached to the weapon. Thus, earlier many companies could afford to engage in the production of CWS, but now, with sufficiently high requirements for weapons, the production of large-caliber sniper rifles is quite expensive, and it is not yet known whether the weapon will pay off, since in addition to the fact that the weapon needs to be made, it still needs somehow and sell, but here you can not do without additional costs. Thus, not every enterprise can afford the purchase of rather expensive equipment and materials for production, and even fewer small arms companies can afford full-fledged advertising of their weapons. However, if everything goes smoothly, then there will be success and the weapon will pay for itself many times over. It is the potential profit from the creation of new precision large-caliber rifles that makes many companies unite or divide the labor of design and production among themselves, although the profits also have to be shared later.

So the division of the Swiss company Swiss Arms AG, located in the USA, SIGARMS at the beginning of 2011 presented the new SIG 50 sniper rifle. We will leave the branches for other material, you just need to take into account that now it is an almost independent arms company, part of the SIG SAUER concern. In other words, the company is "spinning" for its own money and is promoted thanks to its ideas. In this case, as it turned out, the idea was only to create a weapon, and a minimum of money was spent at all. Without putting it on the back burner, I will immediately say that almost everything in a sniper rifle is made by the hands of the designers of the McMillan company, moreover, the weapon is even produced at the factories of this company. SIGARMS, on the other hand, gave only an idea, drew up a clear assignment for weapons, lent their name, and now they are only engaged in the sale and service of weapons. This is how people work now, it turns out.

Knowing who designed and manufactures the weapon, it becomes clear why the rifle seems familiar, because in fact it is a redesigned McMillan TAC-50. The weapon has a sliding bolt that locks the barrel bore when turning two lugs. The surface of the bolt has beveled valleys, the task of which is to facilitate the movement of the bolt when contaminated with dirt, sand and other things. The trigger mechanism of the weapon is adjustable along the trigger, as well as by pressing force. The rifle butt is folding, fixed with a clutch, which eliminates any backlash, even for weapons with a long track record. The stock has the ability to adjust its length, has a height-adjustable cheek rest. The barrels of the weapon are free-hanging, to increase the rigidity of the barrel, reduce its weight and better cooling, it has longitudinal valleys. In the front part of the forearm, folding, height-adjustable bipods are attached.

The length of the rifle with a barrel length of 737 millimeters is equal to 1448 millimeters. The weight for this class of weapons is small, only 10, 7 kilograms. The weapon is powered by detachable single-row box magazines with a capacity of 5 rounds. Accuracy for a series of ten shots at a distance of 2000 meters is equal to one angular minute, however, it all depends on the ammunition used.

In other words, the weapon turned out to be as simple as possible, with good characteristics and quite viable. The only drawback of this rifle is that there is only a Swiss name in it, and whatever one may say, even such a deception is unpleasant. That's from whom, but from them, I did not expect this.
