For some reason, many military experts believe that the era of missile boats (rocket) has come to an end. Mass production of these ships fell on the 60-80s.
They have reason to believe so - the boat is practically defenseless against attacks from the air, and until the moment the missile weapons are used, the boat will simply not survive in modern conditions.
Therefore, at first glance, it becomes pointless to continue building ships with a displacement of up to 350 tons with missile weapons.
But, first of all, putting a bold cross on boats with missile weapons is not entirely appropriate. Missile ships with accurate target designation and air cover are still quite formidable weapons.
Secondly, the rather quick withdrawal of these ships from the sphere of military interests is due to a change in the political situation - the collapse of the USSR, the main producer of rockets, as well as the collapse of all countries of the Warsaw Pact.
Today, eight countries are armed with about 70 project 205 missiles. These countries are the first in the list of possible buyers of the newest Katran missile system, created by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau with maximum requirements for a modern ship of this class.
The main tasks of the RC "Katran"
The ship is intended to counteract and destroy enemy surface ships and patrol the coastal territory and water areas.
"Katran" of project 20970 is considered "a missile ship of project 205, modernized for modern conditions of warfare at sea." Perhaps because it was the Almaz Central Design Bureau that developed the 205 project, and it was the base of the Osa that became the platform for modern weapons of domestic production. In addition, the replacement of the propulsion systems with the engines of the well-known German manufacturer of propulsion systems "Tognum" was beneficial.
RC "Katran" can be used to solve the following tasks:
- inflicting a missile strike on any enemy surface ships;
- assistance to coastal defense units in repelling enemy attacks from the sea;
- providing cover for the amphibious assault;
- conducting reconnaissance;
- protection of territorial waters and sea areas.
Main characteristics of the ship
The well-developed hull of the ship is adapted for sailing in the northern regions and can withstand collisions with ice up to 40 centimeters. The seaworthiness of the boat makes it possible to carry out the assigned tasks in rough seas of up to 7 points, and to use rocket armament at 5 points without any restrictions on the running characteristics. The survivability of the boat is preserved when 2 adjacent compartments are filled with water.
GEM - two diesel engines with a total capacity of 6800 kW with a water jet drive (two water cannons are used).
The range of destruction of the SCRC is up to 130 kilometers, the dead zone is about 5,000 meters.
The boat is 46 meters long, 8.4 meters wide, and has a draft of 1.8 meters.
Crew - 29 people.
Swimming autonomy up to 10 days.
